Big Mac's Lifestyle Change

Haha, no need to feel obligated to tell me I look good :D. I totally know what you mean by seeing yourself as fat. I look in the mirror every night and complain about how fat I am. Makes me feel like a 13yo girl. :smilielol5:

No obligation at all believe me :)

I will be so happy the day I stop thinking I am fat...

Heh, if you say so. I know what you mean Ali, I feel like I've barely made a step in the right direction. One of these days I'll look in the mirror and be happy, I know it.

See, that is how I am - people say, well you lost 80 pounds and my response is usually - SO? Look at how far I have to go...I need to start looking at how far I've come :) I look a hell of a lot better than I used to that's for sure.

Yep, its kinda like that glass half full or half empty kinda thing. I'm just tired of halfs, I'm ready to be a tall drink of canadian water. ;)

You know, your meals remind me a hell of a lot of the Zone diet. That diet was really good, but I just felt deprived. For example, you had half a sandwich with salad. I would eat only the half a sandwich and I wanted the whole sandwich. Mind you, I was supposed to be having like fruit or something with it....I think. But I just didn't want to eat too much or something haha. Then I'd always crave what everyone else was eating. Now...I can't stand tuna sandwiches.

But I know that your method is not so much a diet. You don't necessarily have serious limits to what you can and cannot eat. Which makes it easier to follow.

Yeah, at first I had a hard time with it... my portions were bigger. That was all because of my past horrible eating habbits though. I used to be able to eat a large pizza by myself. Or stop by taco bell for a meal and big cup of soda at 11pm. Ever since I've cut down to sensable meals though, I fill up a lot easier. I went out with some friends a few weeks ago and definately couldnt finish my meal. I just listen to my body now... when I'm hungry I eat, when I'm full I stop eating. Eating a lot slower helps with feeling full. I used to eat so fast that I was hungry the whole time and stuffed when I was done. If you slow down while you eat and drink a lot of water, you get full a lot faster. I'm roughly following the abs diet. Lowfat dairy, eggs, lean meats, fruits, veggies, whole wheat/whole grain carbs, some whey here and there, EVOO, etc. I love eating this way, def something I can do for the rest of my life. Think I've heard of the zone before, I'll check it out. The way I'm eating now though is great. I don't really get cravings because I can pretty much eat anything I want, I'm just making better decisions now. I think cutting out soda and eating late were the biggest things for me. Now all i have after 7 or 8pm is a glass of lowfat milk. As far as fluids go though, I'm 90% water 10% lowfat milk.

Thanks for droppin by Amanda, I missed ya! :grouphug:

Hey no problem buddy. Yea the biggest problem I've always had with eating is that I scarf down my food. Then I'm going back and taking small bites of the leftovers because my body hasn't realized it's been fed yet. I pretty much did that last night. I overate...had dinner at 7:30 and woke up feeling soooooooo bloated. I need to work on that, but I don't know how I can do that when I just love eating and it's been a habit for so long now. I also used to eat really late. I still do if I'm drunk or stoned. I came home on Tuesday night pretty drunk and just dove into some cheese pizza. The crust was whole grain but still... eating at 1 in the morning is not good at all. And the scale and your body tells you that the next morning.

Alright, I'm going to heat up my soup!!!!

Ok Amanda, I have two tips for you to help you slow down while you eat.

1) Use utensils always. (smaller the better)

So no matter what you're eating, even if its pizza.. use a knife and fork. Its going to make you slow down. I used to use those big spoons in a sugary cereal bowl. Now I just use the small ones so it slows me down. A lady I used to work with used a baby's spoon to eat yogurt... pretty good idea actually.

2) Take a sip of water between every other or every 2nd bite.

More water is good for you and it makes you set down your fork and take a break. Not to mention a lot of times when we feel "hungry" it can actually be your body telling you that you're dehydrated.

:blush5: Thanks Alta. I know I will get there too, not sure when... but I'll get there. Yeah, some of those "jocks" always have to cut down overweight people and are really insensitive. I know how it is to be on the other side of the fence though... hell, I'm still there... I'm just climbing over.

I really appreciate that Alta, may just be the nicest compliment I've ever recieved. :blush5:

Heh, you make me sound great. Can you go around in Vegas and tell some ladies all that stuff? :D Kidding, you're the best Alta. :grouphug:

That is fantastic! I used to eat fast food for dinner 3-5 times a week for awhile. It become addicting...I seriously think they put something in the food to keep you hooked. Once I quit cold turkey and stopped going to fast food (other than sandwiches) I found that I no longer craved the fast food after a few weeks. It's great to overcome the fast food battle. Great job!

And to listen to your body and stop eating when u are full is HUGE. You really are onto something great :)

So true LLH. I think soda is extremly addictive as well. I used to HATE water, tasted horrible. Now, besides milk, its all I've had for the last couple months, and I LOVE IT! I heard once that it takes about 3 weeks to create a habit. Well getting rid of the fast food habit and getting into water were two of the best things I ever did.

Hey Shaun! Geez your journal is busy! It takes me like 45 minutes just to catch up from where I left off! Mine is all full of cobwebs and dust lol... Anyway, just stoppin' in to say hi! :waving:

Agreed, I rarely drink a soda, but my sister MJB drinks a lot of diet...she loves her soda. For me, it's all water and an occasional unsweetened ice tea. But I do drink my fair share of margaritas and I love alcoholic ciders. I try to limit the booze but I definitely focus mainly on water intake.

Man... I used to drink soda like it was going out of style. When I decided to change my lifestyle to healthy 5yrs ago I gave it up. It was hard at first [I never drank water] but now I LOVE water and if I ever *do* have a soda [which is very rarely] I only take a few sips and than it gets disgusting.

I totally agree on soda being addictive...and I say that from personal experience. I've had people tell me "oh quit and you won't want it anymore". I stopped drinking soda for 8 months and the first time I got a sip of soda from a soda fountain you'd have thought I was junkie doin a line of crack. It was so good. And I know alot of people, including me, get the mad headaches and cravings when they quit drinking it, that magically go away after a pop and I doubt it's just the caffeine.

I've cut back so much...I'll go some days without but I try to limit to one a day. And I still think that's too much but as bad as I know it is for me....its SO hard to give up. I could probably give up any specific food but time and time again I've quit the soda and come back to it. I drink diet and have since I was little so no sugar but from what I've heard thats worse than regular. Oh and in case anyone has wondered, every time I've quit drinking soda for a long period of time I've FELT the difference and always lost weight. So yea....why am I still drinking it? I can tell you it was alot easier to just stop when my husband wasn't bringing it home. Even if I stop buying it thats the one thing he'll leave the house to get, lol.
