Big change to weight loss plan

Okay, maybe not THAT big, but something that will help me more probably.

Instead of working at home with two 25 lb and two 30 lb dumbells and bodyweight cardio exercises, I will be working out at anytime fitness gym.

But, this is my first time ever working out at a gym or using gym equipment, I know nothing of what machines do what, or what I need to do. Any advice? Also can I take faith in the fellow people who are there working out?

Thanks.

I will be going daily, 5 to 6 times a week, and working out, just as hard as I would be at home, if not harder. I have the want, and the desire, I just need some guidelines.

Skip the machines (for strength training). For the cardio, just ask someone there if the employees aren't helpful. Usually cardio machines are simple. Hit start and set speed.

Find a good strength training program and learn those lifts. Pictures and videos will help, but if you can get someone to watch you and critique your form, that is priceless. You just need to hope they know what they are talking about.

I've had people offer me "advice" on my form and its ridiculous what comes out of people's mouths.

Get a exercise layout sheet that lists all the exercises you can do with machines. For instance cable crossover, leg machines and upper body machines. One site you might want to check out is It shows you all the different exercises you can do. Best thing to do is print this out and maybe take it to the gym in your pocket.

K you said skip the machines for strength training, so ... Just stick to freeweights for strength training?
