Bicep Question

Hello, this is my first post at this website. I would greatly appreciate your feedback. I found this forum while searching on Google for a community that may be able to provide assistance for my problem.

I am a 16 year old male high school student. I have been lifting weights at the local YMCA. I have developed many stretchmarks on my biceps (approximatly 20 small scars on each arm). I would work out (primarily my biceps, triceps and pectorals, occasionaly my calves) for one hour straight, five days a week. (Monday-Friday). I lifted whatever I was capable of lifting for that hour.

I have done a bit of research, and I have found that stretch marks are common when working out. I have also read about several different oils containing Vitamin E that are used to reduce the scarring.

I have not been working out for very long (about two months, and I would miss a work out occasionally) yet my biceps are COVERED. These stretch marks go all the way down my bicep to about an inch away from my elbow.

Am I doing something wrong? Have I over-worked my biceps? If I have, how do I make sure that I do not work these muscles too hard? Have I been doing something else wrong? Is there any way I can work out my biceps while preventing scarring?

I took several pictures, although my webcam was not able to pick up much detail.

Thanks.

First off, welcome to Fitness.com

Secondly I have to ask, were you working your bis, tris, and pecs each 5 days a week, or did you have a split routine? If you worked the same muscle group, 5 days a week then you are over training. Also, you shouldn't just lift the heaviest amount you can for as many reps as possible, as this is where injuries occur.

If you have a routine down I would like to take a look at it.

Stretch marks are common whilst working out. If you have some time, just read the beginning of this article, as it explains the pros and cons of different forms of treatment.

I don't believe that you can get rid of stretch marks fully without surgery. Just fade the color of them.

The best thing you can do at the moment, is make an appointment with your dermatoligist as they can refer you to the best options. They might point you in the direction of Retina-A. Though it MUST be prescribed by your dermitologist. Retina-A works in reducing the redness of the stretch marks by causing blood vessels to constrict.

Vitamin E as well as Cocoa Butter have been used by some with a limited amount of success.

Best of luck to you Seahawk, hope to see you around the forum in the future.

Your routine is terrible. Possible stretch marks are the least of your concerns.

why aren't you working the legs? why are you trying to work the same 3 muscle groups FIVE TIMES A WEEK?!!?!

Throw the current routine in the garbage and start over. don't hit the same muscle more than 2 or 3 times a week, stop neglecting your legs and back, and quite spending so much time focusing on tiny muscles like biceps and tricpes.

I couldn't of said it better myself...

As for the stretch marks, purchase some pregnant women cream and follow the directions. The ones that already formed are there to stay but this will prevent more.
