Best way to increase running speed

Started running last year, ran/walked a 5K and am trying to get back on the running band wagon. I would like to increase my speed but dont want to tackle more than I can handle. Any advice on gradually increasing speed?
 
You should alternate your running.
Monday - Run for 30 mins slowly
Tuesday - Run for 15 mins faster
and keep repeating back and forth as so. Eventually, like weight lifting, you will be able to run 30 mins faster with no problem, but it will take time and moderation. Don't give up!
