Best time to workout.. when?

Hi all,

I am planning to get pregnant with my 1st child soon (I've been married for a year and half) and for that, would like to lose like 10 kilos in a month and a half.

I used to be thinner than now. I used to walk in a fast rate in early mornings last year and my body looked fantastic as I also used to do some sit ups!

Now, after I married, I stopped working out but I got an Elliptical and started working out at home after work.
I got to work from home at 7am so I have no time to workout in the morning. I come from work at 4pm so I do workout at night; sometimes at 9pm other 10 or 11pm for an hour in the elliptical and later do some sit ups.
I started to believe that working out in the morning is more effective specially because I used to do so in an empty stomach; and later on the metabolism keeps on all day!

Please I need someone to advice me on this matter.
Is working out in the morning more effective than other times? I am ready to wake up at 5:30am!

Thanks!

Suzan

Again, with the access bar...whats the deal??

Anyways, I doubt any bar is going to help, good old fashioned excersize is great! I do agree that 4pm is a good time given, personally, my energy dips then. BUT I am awful busy then with my kids, so what works best for me is to do it first thing in the morning. It starts my day out right and I have the excersize out of the way.

BUt you have to find what works best for you :D

Here's what I read on doing fasted morning cardio:

1. There is less glucose, glycogen and insulin in your body after an overnight fast so you burn more fat.

2. Eating before a workout causes a rise in insulin level that inhibits fat burning. You have to burn off what you've just eaten before tapping into your fat reserves.

3. Your metabolism stays elevated after an intense workout so you burn calories all day. If you do your cardio in the evening, you don't reap the benefit of the "afterburn" effect as your metabolism slows down when you go to sleep.

I find it best to work out in the morning when my energy level is high. As I combine cardio and weight training in one session, I do eat something light before my workout.

It is more challenging to work out in the evening...I feel 'heavy' and less energised as my body digests food eaten during the day.

The great thing about doing my workout in the morning is that I get it out of the way early.

You hit it right on the head, Nic. Not only is it harder to work out in the evening, that is my "danger time" for eating. I personally love working out in the morning. I have to get up earlier, but this means I can go to bed a little earlier to avoid the "late night snack attack".
