best time to work out and how close to meals?

I have been working out each night roughly a half hour after i have ate supper. should i be waiting longer for my food to digest and or working out a whole different time of day?

I have heard working out the first thing in the morning afte getting up is the best time. Is this true?
 
I don't think it matters - whatever works for you should do it. I eat supper when I get home from work, then hit the gym about 2 hours later, and I always eat a little something afterward for recovery. It works for me.
