Best time of day?

Wasn't really sure where to post but, its kind of indirectly related to weight loss (well, BF% loss anyway)

I've recently bought some Body fat % scales which use BIA (bioelectrical impedence analysis) to measure your body fat. I have heard that body fat fluctuates throughout the day in much the same way as bodyweight but, for different reasons. I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning and I take this to be my 'true' bodyweight (plus, its at its lowest ;) ) Is this the same for bodyfat or does it fluctuate differently?

Body fat measurements by bio electric impedance can change during the day. The best thing I can say is be consistant in the time of day that you measure.

I'm not too sure but i don't think actual body fat in absolute terms flucate much during the day. The body fat % will change as your body weight is used in the calculation, so it will change as your weight changes.

Well, so far it seems to be the opposite. I took a reading last night (17.1%) and weighed myself at the same time on the same scales (172lbs). Then took another reading this morning (18.7%) and weighed myself again (169lbs)

Now, this brings me onto another problem. One of my scales is wrong. I weighed myself straight after on the scales I have been using for months (166lbs)

So, basically, I have no idea how much I weigh anymore, lol! Although, I do know that the evening is the best time to take a bodyfat reading and the morning is the best time to weigh myself.

I think I'll just monitor the bodyfat and forget the weight. I think I've gained muscle mass anyway as I'm down from 22% bodyfat 6 weeks ago.

Okay so, I finally gave in and read the instructions. Apparently late afternoon is the optimum time to take a reading so, as of 4pm my body fat percentage is 16.3%. I'll take a few readings at the same time for a few days to make sure it remains constant. Plus, I have a re-assessment at the gym on Monday so, I'll be able to see how my readings compare to theirs.
