best? or no such thing

hey guys, okay i just want like a simple answer. Okay so i was wondering if there were any like exerices that target the stomach/lovehandles more then other areas, i know there is no such thing as spot reduce, i know you have to eat healthy, i know you have to weight train, i know i know i know, i just would like to know if theres a better exerices that targets my stomach/lovehandles more then it would on another part of my body? for example, rollerblading is mostly for the legs, i know there is more things, but just get my point. hopefully everyone gets my point...thanks!

p.s im not looking to get abs at the moment, as i still have flab/lovehandles to work off.

okay if that paragraph doesnt make sense, what exercise could i do that would burn fat mostly around my stomach/lovehandles area?
for example: rollerblading targets mostly the leg. ( i know other things to )

Cow tipping and tyre flipping are like totally great for your abs ;)

If you're short on 400lb tyres or sleeping cattle then I'd recommend deadlifts

Ab isolation targets that abs, period. But it won't help to burn fat off it in the least, unless diet and overall training is in order.

I still believe the best ab exercises are squats and deadlifts, compound lifts.

Depends on what you mean by 'targets'. Dozens of abs exercises will work those muscles, just like curls target biceps. But none of them will target the fat in those areas specifically.

I think the best is to do all sorts of things. Squats and deadlifts are a must. Every time I do them, I feel how insanely tight that area is.

Situps are very good performed properly, crunches are good.

Then do other things like reverse crunches and hanging leg raises, bicycles, etc.

Lol, you shouldn't add something like this to your original post after we've all replied because it makes our advice look bad

There is no exercise in the world that mostly burns fat from your stomach, and rollerblading doesn't burn fat mostly from your legs. That's called spot reduction which you claimed to know earlier in your post isn't possible.

Wait wait wait, don't say that. You are promoting the idea of multiple muscles in that region, and you are promoting the idea that doing them will get that area in shape.

To the OP...

You actually contradicted yourself majorly in the first post. You said that you know it's impossible to "spot reduce" but you specifically asked for exercises that will burn fat away from your midsection. In that case, my answer would be, "there is no such exercise."

However...I have read that (and there was a study mentioned in MF) if you were to target a particular muscle group and THEN do cardio, you could lose fat from that particular area. The theory (I stress the word theory) is that the resistance training (spot training) of the area will loosen up the fatty deposits covering the muscles, making it easier for the body to use those particular fatty deposits during a cardio session. In that case, I would try to do a 3 - 4 circuits of 3 ab exercises (crunches, hanging leg raises, Bicycle crunch) and then do some cardio. Based on the theory above (that word again), you may able to promote accelerated fat loss in the abdominal region.

Hope that helps and good luck!:)

I agree that you did contradict yourself there. You basically said, "I know I can't spot reduce, but can you give me an exercise that helps to spot reduce the abs, the way roller blading spot reduces the legs?"

Roller blading may work the muscles in the legs, but has nothing to do with burning fat in them.

Ok, ok, I'm sure you've caught on by now.

I believe I've heard of the theory listed above. It sounds a bit to me like one study somewhere came up with some shaky findings that a popular magazine ran with in order to sell magazines by promoting an idea that everyone wishes were true. (kudos to xtreme for stressing the word "theory" about 10 times).
