Best exercise to aim at this part of my body? *Pic*

Hi everyone! I'm actually new here but I was hoping to get some advice judging from my attached picture of me which I took 5 minutes ago.

As you can see it's my sides which I just can't seem to aim at. I jog everyday so my cardio is perfectly fine. I bench 40kg and use free weights a lot. Even use medicine balls whilst executing crunches.

My chest is beyond average and bulks out through most of my clothes. So what I see my torso as is an "hourglass" sort of shape. Which obviously being a guy, isn't really ideal.

I was quite overweight as a child and my trainer told me it may just be "babyfat" which will burn off in time or as I grow out of it. Though I was wondering (judging by my picture) if there is any advice I can be given to send that extra baggage packing!

Any advice is greatly appreciated :) Thank you!

Oh & by the way, I'm 19. Just in case anyone needed that for analysis haha

I have the same problem which will is probably also a result from me being fat all the way until senior year. Hopefully you get an answer besides the usual, "you can't spot reduce"

While maintaining the same amount of fat, it shouldn't look like a bigger amount of fat. Although your body fat stayed the same, the body fat % lowered because you have gained with more muscle. However if you also increase your fat while gaining muscle, it might make the fat look bigger. I doubt it though. keep lifting, clean up the diet, perhaps add some cardio, and you'll be fine.

You seem to be doing enough cardio, though increase if you think it'll help. My advice is keep up cardio and start focusing more strength training. The more muscle you build, the better your metabolic rate functions, then maybe it will in turn start breaking down those handles.

Ok I'll just give u a straight answers since these other people can't. Just do oblique crunches and side planks to build muscle under this love handles and burn fat (refer to Internet for more exercises). Widen your shoulders by doing military presses and side raises with dumbbells, and do pull ups. Build up your lats by doing rows and pull ups. Of course, keep up the cardio and go on a low carb, high protein diet with lots of fruits and vegetables.

so you want to be lied to?

I'm sorry, but you can't freaking spot reduce fat, unless you go under the knife! The body burns fat as it sees fit, and the abdomen is the last place it's burned from in people with high testosterone (men), and its the legs/hips/butt in high estrogen people (women).

So, since you can't spot reduce by doing endless ab work...how's your diet? I bet you still eat a lot of 'bad food'.

I agree with Deceptimod. The problem isn't that you don't have muscle, it's that you need to lose the fat around it. Drop an extra couple hundred calories from your diet, and make sure that you're ramping up your cardio to burn more calories. The more you burn in general, the more you'll see that part shrinking away. So... keep a food journal and see what you're eating, first off, then cut some of those extemporaneous calories.

I'm a big fan of Malkores response (once again). I think the best exercise to aim at that part of your body is a few less spoon lifts :)...But really, your nutrition plays a huge role in losing fat, especially around your belly. So a smaller portion here, one less chocolate cake there, and before you know it those long-lost abs will appear (with some good exercise as well of course)

All the best!
