This probably gets asked a lot...but does excess "fat" intake contribute directly to excess belly fat?

I've been cutting calories for a couple of months now, but I never bothered to count fat grams or carbs. Its been working so far but I cant seem to get my stomach as flat as I would like it to be. Any suggestions??

I’m open to ANY suggestions!

Steve here's my 1st of many questions ..lol
You better comment;)

You cant choose where the fat will come off during exercise, so it only makes sense that you cant choose where it goes on. So in short, the answer is no.

Are you at a weight loss stopping point? How long have you been doing the same workout routine?

No, I'm still losing weight just fine.

I read somewhere that too much fat in your diet can make it harder to get a flat stomach.

I wanted to know if counting fat grams makes a difference or not?

Nah, dietary fat does not create fat. Adding or losing fat to your body is a function of energy balance. Eat more than you burn off, add tissue. Eat less than you burn, lose tissue. Simple as that.

When that fat is tissue, we each store and lose it in genetically individual pattens. Your tummy is probably your trouble area. It is probably the first place you store fat, and therefore, the last place you will lose it.

If you are losing fat, don't fix what ain't broke! When it stops, come and see me. ;)

Would that be metaphorically?? :)

I see what your saying. My stomach is always the first place I notice weight gain now that I think about it. What about counting fat grams? What is the fat/calorie ratio I keep seeing everyone talk about?

My hubby is a medic/EMT kinda-like-a-nurse dude (works in an ER at that), and he's always told me that weight-loss does this: from your head down and your toes up. The middle is the LAST thing to go! So I'm kinda excited b/c my thighs are tightening up and my abs are tightening up... so is my belly chub next? 'Course I have trouble b/c I had 2 c-sections and my kids were 9 lbs and 10.5 lbs. My stomach looks bad. I almost look prego. It sucks. I'm just going to keep on it!

As far as suggestions. Go to Wal-Mart and buy that 10 minute solutions pilates video for abs and more. I really noticed improvement after I started with that.

1 gram of fat contains 9 calories
1 gram of protein contains 4 calories
1 gram of carbohydrate contains 4 calories

I would have to disagree with your husband. The pathways of which, how, where we store fat is predetermined by our genetic codes. Logically though, most people don't have fat calves and heads, so most noticeable weight/fat loss occurs around the middle of the body, which is probably why he is making that assumption.

If that's true what you say about if it's the first place you store fat and the last place I'll lose it...I'll have to lose a lot of weight before it starts coming off of my legs...DARN!

Just stay consistent and persistent. The last place fat comes off usually deters people from fighting through their sticking points. Don't be one of them.

You are very beautiful btw. :)

You guys are so silly:rolleyes:

And YES I am suggesting that we pimp out Steve..I mean just look at him!::D

SoSel thanks for the advice. Haha I hate that when you first begin to lose weight its like everyone only notices it in your face! Its like great my double chin is gone but what about EVERYTHING else! And yes pregnancy and c-sections wreck havoc on your tummy! But its worth it...I think:p

And Steve thanks for explaining the ratio. Hopefully I can integrate this into my diet :) I'm a carb addict though...im not gonna lie (tear)

Phylicia, just wondering...do you have an hourglass figure? I swear...I usually measure lk 26 or 27 in around my waist but its so out of proportion to my hips and bust (36D)! Seems like hips just didn’t get the memo...

i read that eating plenty dairy helps you with belly fat - how true it is i cant say,

I agree with the head down, toes up statement as thats what is happening to me, i am just hoping that my belly will eventually slim down as much as other places.
