Being sick + calories

I've always wondered if you're allowed to eat more calories when sick. Right now I caught a bad case of sinusitis (or something close to that) and I feel really bad. I've already eaten meals that should be pretty filling (couscous with oilive oil and a few vegetables, which is nearly 400 calories + a peanut butter bar, 170 calories) yet I am still as hungry as if I hadn't eaten.

I don't want to eat more, because I would go over my daily calorie count, yet I don't want to starve, either!
Does the body burn more calories when sick, or is it the same? Can I eat more even though I'm worried of gaining weight? I can't work out in my condition. I don't feel good enough for it.

In my case....

Morning,

When i had the 48 hour cold, I ate bunches of soup and such and alas, didn't drop an ounce. :-(

I would think your body needs the protein and good calories to help fight off the sickness.

Best wishes,

Barbara

Eat what your body needs and if you gain a little you can work it off at the gym when you are well but your health comes first. Hope you feel better soon.:)

Yes your metabolism increases when you are having fewer. Your metabolism increases about 10 percent for every degree celcius. If your temp is 38 degrees celcius/100.4F your metabolism is 10 percent higher. If your temp is 39 degrees celcius/ 102.2F your metabolism is 20 percent higher.

Hope you will get well soon.

Wow, I thought so too, because I tend to be hungrier than usual when sick.
I've had really bad fever all day, I don't know how much, but I fell asleep for 30 minutes without realizing it.. so it must have been quite intense.

I even wanted to eat pizza today, I feel like it, I hope it won't change anything to my weight loss plan. :p I'll just take a small pizza. Nothing more. And plenty of water.

Thank you all for your input, and for the get well wishes.
