being patient to lose weight

anyone out there who has had success with losing weight, how did you get through the first week or two, did you see any visual difference at all...ive tried diets before i was lookin for visual differences too soon, and i often gave up, wat did you do to have patience in the diet?

self discipline. there are many diets out there, but none will work if you dont stick to it. i dont think you have to be patient, dont worry about results, they will come in time.

What you must try to remember is that, people who are losing weight are usually very conscious of how they look and so they tend to look at themselves in the mirror quite a lot - the problem with this is, on a day to day basis, any differences are going to be imperceptible. This was the problem I had to begin with and I kept thinking "What am I putting this effort in for, it doesn't seem to be making a difference". There are also those who weigh themselves daily, or even several times a day which can be counter-productive as weight fluctuates throughout the day. Gradually though, I began to notice changes.

I think you do need to be patient to begin with but, before long (a few weeks for me) other people started to notice, and then over the holidays when I saw people I hadn't seen for months, I got a lot of favourable comments!

As far as weighing in goes, I weigh myself once a week and check my BF% once every 2 weeks as I like to give myself enough time to make progress.

All I can suggest is stick with it and you won't be disappointed!

A week or two!! Yikes! You have to ask yourself, "How long did it take to get where you are now?" Be realistic that it isn't going to happen in a couple of weeks. Unless you commit to actually making long term 'lifestyle changes' you will spend the rest of your life yoyoing with your weight and health.

It took me a year to lose the weight, and its been off for about a year now.

As the last poster said... it is not about dieting. It is about a lifestyle change and until people are ready to recognize this... they will always have a battle with weight.

Fat loss is comprised of 5 main tools...

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 3-4 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb.

2) Drink lots of water :)

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method.

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss. You will see results your mood and energy levels rather soon. It will vary and depend on when you physically see results. A healthy life is always better than a diet.

What happens when the diet is over?

usually its something bad that makes you decide you need to get in shape... for me, it was shoppin in america in december, i like to buy tight tops.... which no longer made me look.... so good, this was a wake up call, so i hit the gym, WHILE ON HOLIDAY, and its gone from there, iv lost 8 pounds since then and toned up a hell of alot, i look alot better now and its only been 1 month

they key is dont focus on results, do it for fun, to feel better about yourself, keep in shape and stay healthy..

if u look at yourself in the mirror every 2 hours, you'll get discouraged

and just know when to be satisfied with yourself, wich means dont fall in the trap of always wanting more.. like oh I lost 20 pounds now I could build up my abs and look like a Calvin Klein ad and etc etc... You'll end up always living in the future and never will be proud of your present achievements.. set yourself a reasonnable goal and once your there, enjoy, be proud, and keep up the pace..
