Beginning the Journey (Pictures inside)

Congrats!

I think it is great that you are taking charge of your life. I do worry though about what you said about your father and brother. Are you living at home? If it is too hard to speak with them directly about their behaviour, is there any way you can remove yourself from the situation?
I think it is hard to embark on such an amazing journey like weight loss with so much negativity in your life. You need all the support you can get!

Congrats on making such a great decision and good luck!

You can do it!

It's good that you recognize the need for change! I know how it can be living at home and eating out 24/7 let me tell ya!

We are built very similarly so I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. Good luck!

Its funny because I can relate to you in SO many ways! I was never a large child and was quite active and social, but had very mean "friends" who liked to put me down, I too became depressed and would just sit at home and eat, eat, eat.

I think its great that your taking a stand and trying to become a healthier person, as I am too!!

Ive been on this site for a while!! And i havent really done anything since then, until now :D

I would love to hear about your updates, and if your interested I can share mine with you too!

about me
Kate
Im 5'5
200ibs
Goal is to lose 50 :D

I'd like to keep up with your diary. It took a lot of courage to post this, I'm wishing you all the best. I bet you kick some serious butt...

I can relate to you in so many ways! All the signs you brought out in blue are as if I wrote them myself. I am pretty much in the same condition as you are - a bit taller (5'7) and a bit :)D) heavier - about 225 lbs. I feel as if my life stands still because of my weight. I avoid every social event I can and I'm terrified of meeting new people because the old friends are used to how I look like (though I've gained most of my weight in the past couple of years), but I can only imagine the first impression I leave to the new ones. Not to mention the embarrassment I feel when I meet someone I haven't seen for a long time :(
Anyway, good luck to you and I'll be keeping an eye on your progress! :)
We'll both be much healthier and prettier by the summer, you just wait and see! :seeya:

That's nice. It'd be good if you could start using it regularly.

When I first started out a friend gave me his old treadmill and I put it in the garage. I could never get it working right so I eventually gave it away. I was a little intimidated to join a gym too, but I'm glad I did. I've found getting out of the house and going to the gym around other people to be better than being stuck at home working out anyway.

Stay on Track!!!

I just found this website right now because I googled "motivational quotes for losing weight" and your thread came up. =)

I would like to say that I am very happy that you are taking on this strong. I know you can do it, just stay on track and do your best, it is very hard to keep going, but once you get into the routine and you have people supporting you NOTHING CAN STOP YOU!

I recently lost 25lbs with a personal trainer, changing my diet and watching my calories in 2009. I lost the 25lbs in three months excercising 4-5X a week (2X with my trainer) and it was in a healthy way. =)

My goal is still to lose 30-45 more lbs, i originally was 205 in January 2009 and now i am roughly 180-185 and i too am around your height at 5'5"

BTW its not the weight, its about you being healthy! =) I dont care if I don't get to the slimming size of 140 lbs, as long as I am healthy and disease free I am happy! Just remember do it for your health!

Coming on this site will definitely give you motivation especially with all these positive people! I will keep you in my prayers and will be on here often because I need all this positive light from all these fantastic people!

Great Luck and I know you can do it! =):party::party:

Hey, this sort of reminded me of me! Lol. Well done on wanting to make the change and ready to, because that alone is a BIG step of it's own. I'm 19, 219 pounds at my heaviest, 5 foot 5 and looking to lose about 60 pounds! Would love to support and help each other if you want to, think weight lose 'buddies' are a fab idea. Anyways, wish you all the best!! x

I can't even tell you how much I relate to your story.. I'm 20 now and after high school I just don't know what happend.. although I have been overweight my whole life, it really got bad in these last 2 years.. I was around 175lbs when I left high school, and now I'm 225lbs (220 on a good day), and I'm around 5'4 1/2.. my highest weight was 235, but thank god I was able to keep off those extra 10-15lbs..

I know what you mean by avoiding social events, being embarassed to walk in places, looking at your friends pictures while they're dressed so nicely having fun in a club, not being able to tie your shoes cuz your stomachs in the way..basically everything

Your positive attitude despite everything going on in your life is really an inspiration to me! i know its sounds cheesy haha, but its true. I'm also trying to lose the pounds, and want to have a healthy lifestyle. Its been hard for me, and I've tried to lose weight and failed many times, but this time I believe I really will do it! And I think you definitely will too! :) Can't wait till summer when we can show off our new bods. We'll be bringing out the bikinis! :D

GO YOU!:D
I know you can do it.
And while this has been said a lot...you are just like me!xD
Except for the being fit at one point thing. I've always been a chubby tubby.:)
But I'm around the same height.
And looking at your pictures...I can't help but see me. For real. Your body looks almost exactly like mine. NO LIES!xD
I even have a braclet like that on right now! Mine is peace signs though.lol
I will for sure keep checking up on your diary.:)

Just wanted to say good for you for making this change. We sound alike in so many ways including the home situation. I know you can do this! :) I'd love to keep in touch with you so that we can motivate each other, be weight loss buddies :)

Hey I read your post, it's very typical of how many people get stuck in the same situation you're in. So you're not alone :)

I think there's alot of misconception about what others think of other people at the gym. Honestly, as I a male, the ONLY thing I look at when it comes to other people, is if they're on the piece of equipment I want to use, and how long they're going to be. That's it.

If anything, we ridicule people who are in BETTER shape than us, and attribute their success to performance enhancing drugs and good genetics, when in actuality they probably worked very hard for their gains.

Almost everyone realizes at the gym that everyone starts somewhere. And honestly, I like seeing familar faces at the gym, even If i don't talk to them. It's a great way to gauge their progress and mine. If anything, people at the gym will be more sympathetic to you than someone on the outside, because of a lot of them have been exactly in the same position as you.

Working out will also help lift your spirit and help ease stress. You seem like a sharp girl, just stay on it, stay focused, and you can be another one of the success stories here :)

I know just what you mean about the social outings, I lost touch with so many friends after I left college as I didn't want them to see how big I was now. I'm looking forward to doing alot of visiting once I reach my target weight :D

Entirely agree with you on the Gym thing as well. I like that I can work out at home on my equipment, watching my tv shows when I find it convenient, but on the other side of the coin when I was going to the Gym I definitely put in more effort - as you just do what you went there to do. At home you try stay motivated to finish your workout, whereas you only need to motivate yourself to start one at the gym - once you walk through the door the habit kicks in!

As others have said, to get this far and post your story and photos you've shown you're serious about making change for the better and I'm sure you'll get the results you want.

All the best! :)
