Beginner

Okay so I know that I really need to lose weight so today I am beginning a new start. So a little background on me.... Before I had kids (yes I blame the weight gain on it but in all reality it was my laziness and crazy eating lol) I weighed about 130-140. That was almost six years ago. Today (I am so embarrassed to say this) I weigh 230 lbs. I am only 5'1" so this has gotten way out of control. I just finished nursing school this month (because yes this was another excuse for me I was too busy with studying that I didnt have time to exercise). I am tired of saying that I am going to start working out but never sticking to it. Well today I decided that that was going to change. I am going to start eating more healthy (although truthfully that might be in baby steps) and start working out at least walking for 30 mins. I am going to start using my wii active 30 day challenage. I would like to lose about 2 lbs a week because I know anything over that is not healthy but I also understand the first few lbs are mostly water weight. I have quit drinking regular pop and have cut down to 1 can of Coke zero which is a big step considering I was drinking 3-4 bottles of Mt. Dew daily. I have been doing this for about a week now so it is time to begin the harder aspects of my goal. I need all the encouragement and tips that people have so please feel free to help!

Well been two days since I started working out and watching what I eat. I'm excited to report I have lost 4 lbs (which I understand is mostly water weight but still happy). Sticking strong to the exercise and diet. Will post in a few more days.

Hey, its nice to see that you're making the most important move and doing something about it. :)

Firstly, i'd just like to say with your diet make it something realistic and something you aren't gonna give up on in a few months time. make sure it has a balance of food groups in it (i.e. protein, complex carbs). Always remember you can be creative with spices and herbs to help with the flavour of your meals.

Walking is great but its even better if you're getting to the point where you're starting to get out of breath.

If you haven't already, i'd suggest you invest in some free weights or join a gym with access to free weights, because the training you can do with them will really help with burning off the calories and help with the fat loss, muscle burns a hell of a lot of calories!

Most importantly, stick with it and you'll reap the benefits! Good luck!

That 4 lbs is probably not all water weight. It is most likely due to giving up the Mt Dew. I've got a buddy at work who lost 18 lbs in 2 months. The ONLY change he made to his life was he gave up Coca Cola and now drinks water instead. Sugar is HORRIBLE stuff.

Avoid eating CRAP

Caffeine
Refined sugars
Alcohol
Processed food

That, along with cardio and weight training and you will get spectacular results.
