Before pics... also, advice needed...!

Hi all, new here...

First of all, I'll show you some pics ( bikini pics, so beware ;) )

I'm 5 '9 and 61 kg. I work hard and I work from home, I don't get to go out much, however I've recently joined a gym and so get to work out a few days a week.

I guess I'd like to lose about 5kg, though I'm not sure if that's the "right" amount... I don't really know a lot about weight loss and have never properly dieted before. I'm not even sure what shape my body is and so I don't know what kind of weight would suit it best...

I'm particularly irritating by shapeless legs and a huge ass, but I'm hoping my workouts can sort that out while dieting will help me lose the excess weight... any advice is welcome as I have no idea what I'm doing...

I'm American, so I had to do a complicated math equation before being able to respond to this, btw :willy_nilly:

(For other Americans out there, it 61 kg = about 134 pounds)

I also went to a BMI calculator for you, and you have a BMI of 19.8. Healthy BMIs are in the 18.5-24.9 range, so you are well within the range of being healthy (nearing the bottom part of it, actually). And simply anecdotally, I can see your hip bones, so that right there tells me you are not at all overweight.

If you lose much more weight, you'll be underweight, which comes with its own problems (you might stop having periods, for example, and while that sounds enticing, it's not necessarily a good thing).

For you, I would suggest looking into getting a personal trainer for the purposes of toning your muscles, since that seems like it is something you want to do, but I don't think your goal should be to actually lose any weight. Eat a healthy diet and make sure you get enough calories to promote increasing muscle mass (and a trainer would be able to tell you how to do that better than I could).

Other people might have better suggestions for you, so check out what they have to say, too!

Good luck!

Completely agree. You have a fantastic figure, if anything at all you could just tone a tiny bit, don't lose any weight you will look scrawny, not a good look.

Thanks so much for your kind words :)

I know that I'm the lower end of the BMI, but I'm not sure if that's really accurate... I do have far too much fat, I think, on my thighs and hips for instance, and I'm not sure that toning alone will get rid of that. I am certainly not a small woman and have always been a little on the larger side, so I know that losing a KG or two won't leave me underweight. I have plenty of extra beef :)

Over the past year and a half I've lost 5kg naturally and very slowly, through just being active and eating well, but my recent change of jobs (working from home now) has put an end to the gradual weight loss.

I'm enjoying the Gym right now and I'm doing exercises for my thighs and arms etc, but I just don't see how toning is going to get rid of that fat around my thighs etc... I'd like to lose it through dieting but don't know how much weight would be just the right amount to lose...

You look great! and hot by the way!!
I think as mentioned before I would talk to a personal trainer at your gym and see if they have any advice for you.

If you lose 5kg you will be down to 123 lbs. And your BMI will be 19.3, that is kind of on the low side. Very athletic women usually have low body fat like that. I really don't think a diet is what you need. As the other ladies suggested, toning is what you need. You said you don't see how toning will get rid of the fat but it will. The more muscle you build the more fat you lose. Keep your diet as healthy as you can, stay away from excess fat and work your lower half as that is where you are having the problem.

Okay, thanks very much everyone. Hopefully I'll have some improved pics in a month or two... :)

I guess I will focus on continuing to eat normally and healthily and working out. I'm sure I'll lose a bit of weight through exercise anyway, and tone/muscle up.

BrunetteGoddess: hehe thank you so much. But no you wouldn't! Dang butt...

I would kill for that butt, my husband (much as he loves the one I have now) wouldnt complain about it either

I agree that you really dont need to lose, just tone IF it makes you feel better...personally if I were you I'd be running around in nothing but my bikini all the time

You say you are soft.

If you are looking to firm things up a bit, I wouldn't say dieting is your answer. You're already pretty skinny and dieting without being careful at this stage in the game can lead to some pretty significant muscle loss, leaving you a lighter, still soft version of your current self.

If anything, I'd say eating at maintenance calories paired with a balanced weight training routine would give you some great results.

Well damn... if you have a "huge ass" then mine must be "Gi-normous." :D (I likes my gi-normous ass... haha) Personally I think you look fabulous, but hey, good luck with toning up, girl!

You guys are so nice! I think I'm going to live on this forum from now on..!

:)

You have all made me feel a lot better about myself, and you have all really inspired me to tone up too... awww.... *hugs to all*

I agree with everyone above....you look fabulous now! If you'd like to decrease your body fat and increase muscle mass, I would suggest upping your calories a bit and finding a trainer to work with. A professional could better tell you how to work on your physique without getting too thin. Good luck!

That is the body I would like to have! If you are not happy with it... do what makes you feel good!

Ok I have a few more questions.

Basically another area I am really insecure about is my face. It seems to have an unecessary amount of fat...

Fairly normal with mouth closed...

Starting to smile... there are all kinds of weird creases and things going on that I have no idea where they come from...

Grinning... my face is a sea of lines and creases... wtf?

This really bothers me! Is there a natural way I can slim down my face? I mean, it's not really possible to tone your face is it...

As far as I know, not really. When I lost weight, I worked out my whole body and it just sort of naturally slimmed my face along with it.

Now, I feel I need to say something else.

Please don't take offense to this; I truly mean no harm by it and only say it to try to help you out. You are at a normal, healthy weight, and when those of us who frequent these forums look at your pictures, we don't see the "huge ass" and "face fat" you say you have. I think you may have some body issues that we aren't necessarily equipped to deal with. You might consider getting someone to talk to about it.
