Before, now..... and someday I'll get to "after".

Hi all, I'm terrified to post my pics. I'm not beauty queen. Especially with mid-forties creeping up on me. But, i thought having pics up would sort of "force" me to see where I started....and look at how I am going to continue to progress.

I went from seriously ill, pretty damn close to bedridden a few years ago. But, lots of medical testing & trials with this or that drug have finally lifted the pain to a tolerable level, as well as my years & years of HEAVY (no pun intended :willy_nilly: ) depression.

I have a degenerative arthritis so i have to be careful about my exercise. Right now I work out 6 days a week. I do 3 days of group water aerobics classes (very fun ,& aside from the initial horror of wearing a bathing suit in public, it's become my favorite form of exercise because I hate getting overly hot & sweaty...and it doesn't leave me hurting for days). I also do 3 days of machine & free weights. I worked up to this over 3 months & I had a personal trainer give me pointers so i don't hurt myself further. I find I actually really like lifting the weight too. the machines are easier for me, but the trainer gave me some great free weight exercises that will help bring me strength in my arms, back, abs & chest too. Areas that had severely atrophied with my illnesses (ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, neuralgia & a crushed vertibrae in my lower back).
I am also dieting. trying to eat whole foods as much as possible. Trying to eat clean, lowering carbs & eating only complex when I do: whole grains/legumes/beans/lentils, etc. I've seriously upped my protein, especially on weight lifting days. Cut out MOST sugar, salt & sat. fat & soda... as much as possible on a budget, anyway. salt is by far the hardest if you at all use anything canned.
I treat myself to fat free frozen yogurt & toppings (within reason. Say 1 cup of yogurt, with chopped almonds, strawberries & aprox. HALF an Oreo in crumbs) once per week.

So, anyway...here comes the hard part. The pics!
The first was taken last year, it's the best I have, sadly. The second pic was taken yesterday. I am down about 21 pounds from pic 1 to 2. i will update the pics every 20 pounds. It'll be a LONG process...but I can't wait to look back & see the changes recorded here.
I started at 232, am now 209...looking to get to 140 this year. BTW- I am 5'5". I started as a size 3x top, 22 pants, 24 swimsuit. I am now in a 18 pant (XL pant in workout stretchy clothes), 1-2 X top, and size 16/18 swimsuit.

As an aside...hubby took the pic on a 5.4 mile walk we took yesterday by the American River here in Folsom. I remember when walking to the car to drive to the doc was overwhelming enough to make me cry...I am So happy things have changed.
I am also currently training for a 5K in May, here in Sacramento. It's for the Arthritis Foundation. I can't wait to get out & do this. It'll be my first...but not my last! :)

Terrific the way you have changed your life. The dogs look super happy to be out and about too.

Wonderful that you are training for a 5k as well!

Fantastic!

It sounds like you're well on your way to achieving your goal, Legged :)

Even with your medical issues, you still persevered, found a system that works, and stuck with it! That's truly inspiring and I'm so happy for you :)

I wish you continued success and make sure to keep us posted!

That frozen yogurt treat sounds soo good. I love it that you aren't letting anything get you down. You are a major inspiration!

Congratulations on your success.

well done!! and keep doing what you do,you will see results in no time!

Just wanted to come bac k & update. Thanks, 1st, to all who had kind words! I appreciate them. Had a rough patch (plateau) for a few weeks. Finally got the scale moving again. I have now lost 30 lbs. Yes! In 2 lbs. I will have hit my 1st mini goal....being Under 200 lbs. for the first time since 2003.
I am still eating well, working out, and especially enjoying aquacise classes.
I have a new pic my son took 2 weeks ago. I'll have to add it once he sends it to me. I haven't seen it myself.

Here's some face pics (yeah, I know...they're pretty awful). Told ya I wasn't a beauty queen. And the last one I took yesterday after aquacise class , so my hair is wash & wear here. um yeah, yikes!. Anyway. They were taken to show the change in my hair...but they worked out to show the weight loss too. LOL

Legged Egg....you are beautiful!!!! I am so excited for you.....almost at your first goal! I used to be over 200 and when I hit 199 it was like "WOW"
I can't wait for your post saying you did it!!! GO girl Go!!!!

Thanks Dorri, for being sweet enough to lie...and for the positive comments! :) I am proud of myself. I can't wait to see 199 on that scale (never thought I'd say that. I weighed 102 way back in high school...and thought I was "fat" then!! :/ ). My son sent the pic of me n my hubby from the casino. It's not great...but it marks progress.

I an not lying!! You are lovely and you can see the weightloss!! 30 pounds is like ditching 30 1lb tubs of margarine that used to be attached to you!! or 3 10 lb bags of potatoes!! Isn't that amazing!!
I really am NOT lying ...you are very photogenic and I love your hair...it cascades down...I am growing mine out so that I can do that for my wedding!!
Have a great day, lovely lady!!

Just had to come by the thread & say I FINALLY went under 200. I found an old diary & realized I lost the weight last time in 2003! Holy cow! Time flies even when you AREN'T having fun. hehe...
Anyway, I am pretty happy to see 100-something on the scale again. It's been a LONG time.
I also started chemotherapy for the rheumatoid arthritis last night, so hopefully it'll not make me bloat & go backwards. at least i didn't puke (sorry to be graphic, but I was really concerned about that)!!
I'm rewarding myself with a Robek's low fat smoothie (been wanting one for years...but it's a long drive from my house). I won a CD on the radio station & I have to makle the drive to get it, the weather is supposed to be great & I have a full tank of gas....the stars aligned!! So, I plan to enjoy it. :)

Way to go, Legged! Big congrats to you :hurray:

I was in need of some motivation as of late and your awesome accomplishment has definitely helped :) I'm closing in on the same under-200 milestone myself!

I'm so happy for you :D

You'll be reaching your goal in no time!

Thanks! Keep on going. i KNOW there are times it just seems sooooooooo much easier to quit. But you're only giving up on yourself!!
BTW- for Mother's day I was taken out to breakfast, so I split a chile relleno bans & potatoes with my dad. You know i felt so sick all day after that? AND I actually CRAVED a spinach salad. Hehehe...amazing to me how things have changed. I also realized that stuff i missed & remembered as being oh so delicious, really aren't all that! So, I am remotivated...and it happened in a way I least expected.

Congrats! This is really amazing seeing how your life has changed so much, in a good way! I love how positive you are!
Keep up the good work, and keep us posted! You are a a great woman!

Btw, What kind of dogs do you have? :) I love dogs, I have a pittbull- boxer mixed that has 3 legs, he is my baby!
