Before and In-between 70 Pounds

Well it's been a crazy 2 years since I decided to changed my life. June 23, 2011 I weighed in at 381 pounds, I lost 40 of that in the first 6 months, gained back 20, lost 15, lost 30, gained 25, generally went back and forth haha. Did that for about a year until I had one of those eye opening moments. Now I have posted on here in the past but recently things have changed for me, which is why I am posting my progress. I still have atleast another 70 pounds to lose and I am only HALFWAY there but its amazing how much my life has changed thus far. Every aspect of my life is improved. I only wish I had been more serious about it from the start and not just in the last 2 months.

I of course see my weight loss at face value. I realize 70 pounds is a lot of weight but I still nit pick areas that dont seem to show the weight loss as much. Of course I am still over 300 pounds but everyone says I dont look like I am. So I ask the people who view this thread, post up and tell me what you think of my progress! With that said, if yall have any question as to my training or diet just ask and I will gladly share :) BTW, I wear my scars proudly, life happens and I'm better for it :)

First two pics are me at 381 pounds about 2 years ago.
Last 3 are me from today at 311 pounds, I've lost 30 in about 3 months time.

As far as what I did to lose the first 70, it really wasn't all that hard. Although looking back I was pretty desperate for any information that would help me to get there faster and with little work as possible but now after a lot of research and time spent reading I have found that weight loss is different for every single person alive. A few general truths hold true for everyone of course but for the most part Plan A will work for person 1 and not for person 2.

I pretty well ate subway for the first 30 pounds, I decreased my caloric intakes and did isolation exercises as well as traditional cardio. After that I seemed to really hit a wall, I gained some back and lost some again over the months and then I started doing more research. I read article after article on eating small meals through out the day, cared nothing for "macros" as I hadn't read much about "macros" at that point. I ate, whole grain pasta, brown rice, chicken, fish and hamburger meats for 2 months and lost about 10 pounds. Cooked all 45 meals for the week every Sunday and worked my ass off to do it right. I was not happy with the results vs. the work I had put in and so again I went back to do more research, this was a few months ago.

In the end all those successful yet seemingly failed attempts taught me a lesson. Every plan works but it's up to YOU to put in the time too see if it's the right plan for you, your life style and your patience level. Those plans left me tired, constantly full, low sex drive but still losing weight. So one night I was sitting on my couch and it hit me, why am I so concerned with my diet? I knew I was eating right, why not focus on strength training. So I started reading about power-lifting, testosterone, growth hormone, blood sugar, insulin. I educated myself on how the body stores fat, how insulin works and what can be done to improve the quality of my life.

This is when I started reading about Intermittent Fasting. Most people will disagree with me on I.F. and say its bad for you but this is what works for me. I'll let those interested in I.F. do their own research but I personally "fast" for 20 hours a day and get all my calories in a 4 hour eating window. On top of that I also do 2-3 24 hour fasts a week, I also workout in a fasted state. For a guy like me this proved to be very difficult when I started because I held food very close to my heart. I.F. allowed me to disconnect from food and realize I don't have to have it every 3 hours or my body will start eating my muscles. To be clear I don't believe in starvation mode hype. Sure after 72 hours, yes your body will freak out and start turning to muscle to energy but in no way will it do that in the first 24 or even 48 hours, not in my experience anyways. I also eat a ton of protein as well and have a rigorous training routine as well. I focus on what makes me a man, boosting testosterone and maximizing GH levels during workouts. It works for me, thats all I can say.

What do I eat? Steak, Chicken, Rice, Pasta, sweet potatoes, pork chops, nuts, extra virgin olive oil, apples, strawberries, peaches, hamburger meat, brown gravy, eggs (yolk and all), milk, spinach, tomatoes, etc. I eat 700-1000 minus my maintenance on training days (soon that will change to 500 plus to start gaining muscle) and zero calories on fasted days. I've never had more energy in my entire life, it's changed everything for me. I lost 9 pounds doing I.F. and powerlifitng last month and I am hoping to pull the same this month. Post up if you got any questions, it was fun telling you guys my story!

Woah! AMAZING work thus far!! Keep it up and I'm sure you'll hit your goals.

You are right that different things work for different people, and its about committing to what your plan is and staying focused.
I know for me cardio+good diet helps shift the pounds steadily, but from my research i know i need to stop focusing on the scale number and on my body and lean muscle vs fat, and start incorporating weight training. So thanks for sharing your current journey.

good results but i really wouldn't recommend this to others, it is in fact bad for your health. Simply because our bodies aren't built to work the way in which you have been eating. A clear benefit i see from eating properly and not starving yourself is to establish a new regime, if you can get yourself to eat properly whilst watching how much your eating you are changing your own habits for the better in the long run. I know i couldn't go 20 hours a day without eating because i wouldn't make it through a morning at work let alone the day, concentration levels must be horrific. Fasting works in the short term along with consequences of crazy hunger, low energy & slow recovery from exercise. I personally recommend anyone just workout a little every day and watch your total calorie intake, if you can stay 300-400 under your total recommended for one day you will lose at least 1-2lb's a week, way way more if your considered obese. Each to our own but i had to add my ten pence because there are better ways :) again though well done on loosing the weight, all the best.
