Becoming healthy, before it is too late.

I've gotten beyond "not thin". You know how you describe people to your girlfriends as "She's not fat, but she's not thin either..." that always used to be me, the not thin girl...

Well, here I am...delusions aside, a very very not thin girl. Yes, I admit it, I am fat. :piggy:

And, wow, did I ever let myself go. I feel genuinely sick and unhealthy most all of the time..and I'm finally ready for a change. I'm young-ish only 24, I'm hoping to take advantage of that.

I don't smoke, I rarely drink (maybe once every few months, and even then it's maybe half a drink), and I don't do drugs.

I'm in a serious relationship with a guy who loves me, but I know he'd love me a bit more if I were better looking. Men tend to overlook some flaws if they're dating a barbie doll (don't even deny it guys!)

Anyhow, enough babbling. I need to lose weight. I've given up on hoping to lose mass amounts of weight in short periods of time. I don't care if it takes me a year or two to get to my goal weight...I vow to get there.

A lot of what I need, I think, is support and *education*.

Growing up poor, in a very small town, I have very little knowledge of what is and isn't healthy.

For example: I only recently realized that I need to eat more fruit. Growing up, fruit was rarely served in my house as anything other than dessert...and when you're dieting you cut out dessert...so I inadvertently cut fruit out of my diet. Crazy, I know...

There is a new diet plan, new exercise plan, new kinds of good fats and bad fats every day....it is all so confusing!

So I started today...officially on my new plan.

Step 1: Cut out the soda! I am a caffeine addict. So much so that I get the SHAKES if I don't have a pepsi. I made the switch from Pepsi to green tea.
Frankly, I love it so far. It tastes great and keeps me from being shaky.

Step 2: ??? Here is where this forum and loads of research come in.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to get to know you all better as time progresses...

Welcome to the Forum!! This is a great place to get support and advice. I am glad to see you are willing to take the time it does to lose weight. It took you a while to gain weight, it's only natural that it will take you a while to lose it.

Anyway, what are your plans for excersice? As for a diet, I recommend a well balanced diet. Get all your nutrients in. Don't cut out food groups like Carbs, they provide you with a great deal of energy when you are doing cardio.

Good luck!

Morning Dazz,

welcome to the forum. Good on you for wanting to start a new and healthy way of living. I know a lot of this can get confusing, but being as you're so determined, I'm sure you'll do just fine. If you haven't already read the different sections (as well as stickied threads) to gain more knowledge about healthy weight loss. Stay away from fad diets. They're so short lived and they make you feel like crap. haha Also, hop into a few diaries.. get to know people... steal recipes, menus, exercise tips, etc. Wishing you all the best and good luck.

I'm excited that you are looking to forums such as these to learn more about how to eat healthy and to transform your body.

Here is one tip: you don't need to eat more fruit. Fruit is made up of sugar...just like chocolate and pepsi. Admittedly it is healthier in terms of nutrients and vitamins, but as for weight loss, it isn't the best.

Better? Vegetables. You truly cannot go wrong with vegetables.
