After years of struggling with weight, I've topped off at 218 lbs. I decided on Sept 13-09 that I needed to make a change. I've been up and down my whole life post puberty. I finally discovered that I just need to stop being afraid...afraid of being noticed. This morning I brushed off the scale...literally, and jumped on... 210 lbs. So I've lost about 8 lbs since the 13th. The 218 is an estimate using my weight from a weigh in two months before...

I hear my son in the living room tell hubby I dusted of my scale...all I heard from him was a "hurumph"...Oh well, I don't need to have a round of applause...and that's why I've come to this forum for support. We all have our own issues...and they come down to weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

I've started eating breakfast...which I haven't done in many many years, and amazingly I feel much better! If I'd only known. I've been eating 1c Yogurt with a 1/3 cup Muesli (Jordans Organic) and I munch on Apples, Baby Carrots, Radishes...and small handfuls of Peanuts (no more than two) during the day. Whatever we have for our evening meal I halve my normal pre-Sept 13 serving. I have a couple before pics...and starting today I'll take the front, side and rear pics in the same clothes..probably a bathing suit. HOW DO I POST PHOTOS?

I've been swimming in the afternoon and that's the start of my exericise. I already know I'll need to increase the amount I do on a daily basis...I think that's pretty much all I needed to say...:nopity:

Welcome to the forum.

It really helps you to get up to speed if you read all the sticky threads. They have some great information in them - like how to get your ticker working right for instance...

For pictures - log on to and load them up there and put in a link. The before / after thread is set up differently and you can show photos there. Otherwise - you can load up an album and an avatar.

Get a free account on and use it to log your food and your exercise. You will see your calorie balance which is the weight loss that you deserve... You will also be able to hone your nutrients towards what you learn is best when you read the nutrition section. You may be surprised to see that muesli is quite high in calories so you may decide that you want to spend your calories on some other food instead. I never feel like I get enough food to satisfy me if I have muesli.

It is good that you are bringing exercise into your routine. I can honestly say that exercise is the main difference between this weight loss project and many others that I had in the previous twenty years. It has made the biggest difference for me. We have a great section on exercise which you would benefit from reading. I think that there is something to be gained from sampling a number of forms of exercise to see what you enjoy. We are much more likely to keep on doing the things that we like.

Good luck with your project.

Informative!

Thanks so much for all of the information! I've been using a food journal similar to what you suggested provided by Prevention.com...It really give's insight to the type of food I'm eating, the calories and nutrient content. To be honest, I never really gave any of those much though...which is why I'm overweight!

I'll be browsing throught the info provided, and again thank you!

:hurray:

If you continue having muesli - you might want to try mixing it with yoghurt in a lidded container the night before. The muesli then absorbs the liquid from the yoghurt and grows.
