Interesting article. Thought it might put some of our "problems" into a different perspective.

Though, who wants to take bets on how long it takes for someone to use this condition to develop a "cure" for obesity :eyeroll:

60 pound woman

In addition to the above, I'd place bets on overweight/obese people claiming that they infact have the opposite of what this girl has and its the reason for their overweight/obese status, that infact they exercise an hour daily, don't eat anything and everything they look at is absorbed by their skin....

(Heard it all before!)

Wow ......I think this young women as so much courage! It had to take a lot to have been picked on all your life but still be able to go up on a stage in a room full of people and talk. I was never the kid who got pick on and I would almost rather die then speak publicly!!!! She was told she wouldn't walk and be independent .......if at 60lb she can live relatively normal life then there is nothing I can't do...this is very inspiring!

It is, and I was totally thrown by some of the comments posted beneath the picture of the link- even on a bad day I don't think I could have come out with some of the stuff those people did!

You do begin to wonder about Karma in situations like those...

That poor girl :(

But hey Summer
obese people claiming that they infact have the opposite of what this girl has and its the reason for their overweight/obese status

While that may be true with a lot of people, that sure wasn't me ! I said 9 months ago, when I was clinically obese, that I was one of the few fat type A guys you would ever meet ! ....that I had a great metabolism, or else I would have weighed 500+ lbs ! The whole reason I was obese, was because I had a straight up food addiction, and was eating 6000 to 8000 cals of fat, sugar, and other assorted garbage, per day !

I never tried to kid anyone then.... and now that I'm 75 lbs lighter, I still don't.

I use to be obese, all because of my own stupid actions.... and now I'm way thinner, and healthier, also, all because of my own actions.

Peace,
Fish

You know what's really sad? I bet there are people out there who see this woman and hear her story and are like "SIGH, I'm so jealous. I wish I could be that skinny."

But, in all seriousness...that's pretty weird. I can't imagine not being able to gain weight. I can drive by a Taco Bell and gain 3 lbs just from looking at it, but this woman can sit inside and eat the place clean...and not gain a pound? That's crazy.

this is a horrible condition. anything in the extreme is really horrible. i hope they find a cure for this condition since there is already a cure for obesity. we all know that good old diet and exercise does the trick. for this... who knows...

I have to agree with what you say to a certain extent as the world is made up of all kinds of people and there are many people in the world who just love fat people…so to each his/her own.

very rightly said alisha ... regards

Wow, My sister at one point was eating 8000 calories a day and couldn't gain anything! My other sister ate exactly what she ate for a week and gained 15 lbs, Its crazy she doesn't even exercise, she just doesn't gain weight. Even doctors at the hospital didn't believe her, when she was 78lbs they would even have someone go to the bathroom with her, needless to say they were stumped. I feel for this girl, it must be so hard, it makes my journey seem so easy, because mine is treatable with diet and exercise.

The wonders of a proper DIET!

I recently hit a stump in my weight lose, i would work out, run, eat less....nothing, spent a month of just nothing, no moving down in weight. So i kinda took a break, gained 10lb, and just 3 weeks ago started doing something about it again. I was stuck on 230-233 for a while before i took a small break and carelessly drank, ate, partied

Heres me now after going to a nutritionist and being on a strict diet for the past (almost) 2 weeks. Im down to 215 from 231 in just a little under 2 weeks! Changes a lot of people If theres anything i can give you guys tips on (for those looking for tips and motivation) its go see a nutritionist, a GOOD one, and eat healthy. your diet is such an important role in your weight lose that i could not stress it more. (btw, its not really a diet...i eat like 5 times a day!)

I've been in working on my health for almost 5 years now and you know one thing I realized! Today we are so obsessed with getting rid of that belly fat - albeit everyone may have completely different reasons to why or how they want to lose it. But before you begin the fat burning process it is good to know about understanding fat before taking on today’s mentality of ‘getting fit quick’ or adopting a new regime in order to rid oneself with that belly fat.

You need to understand that fat is not only in those noticeable areas but all around your body, even your brain consists of fat. Yet you don’t hear people saying they want to burn off ounces of brain matter. Many just want to rid the fat from those shameful bulges. However, before you run off and work on burning off all that fat you must know that your body needs fat in order to protect your vital organs, keep your body insulated through those long chilly winters, and to give you the energy you need in order to run those long hours and get to the end. Now it is one thing to want to burn that fat but it is good to know and identify there are different types of fat depending on where they exist in your body, because fat is not all created equally.

Visceral: This is a harder kind of fat and serves as an important purpose, located in the midsection or trunk of the body. This fat (although sounds bad) actually plays an important role as it surrounds your internal organs and works as a protective wall. However in today’s society one common factor is that people have too much visceral fat in the midsection to due stress, lack of exercise, bad eating habits etc. This kind of belly building fat which is found in the mid section can cause harm.

Subcutaneous: Is the fat you can grab, although fat can be grabbed around the whole body using caliper body tests, the bigger the fat is around a certain area can determine your health. Now a common factor is a lot of people have extensive visceral fat in their midsection, which can then go from protecting your body to causing serious issues to your health and internal organs.

Retroperitoneal: Is the annoying fat we find when trying to pull up those tight jeans around our thighs. This structural support is intact there to protect your uterus and kidneys.

Now we can put it in perspective and see it’s not just about losing that fat around the thighs and tummy, but when you look in the mirror it’s the subcutaneous fat tend to be the fat that draws your eye’s attention, and then becomes your main focus for weight loss and burning fat.

However in extreme cases it could be from too much visceral fat in your midsection, which is situated under the abdominal muscles as opposed to those who have a layer of subcutaneous fat which is below the skin. Too much visceral fat is usually what will cause an increase in waist size. If you worry about how much visceral fat you may have it is recommended to see you health practitioner as these can cause serious health implications.

The types of fat and what are the Causes of Fat
You will continuously hear that a low-carbohydrate diet is a common way to strip your physique of abdominal fat, especially in the fitness circles around today. However reducing carbohydrate intake too much will reduce your insulin resistance which has been known to attribute to fat gain around the belly. Insulin is a hormone we need in order for our bodies to digest carbs. A way to lose fat combined with a healthy exercise regime is to adapt the eat less move more mantra. Work on eating fewer calories then what you expend, whilst still eating a moderate amount of carbs, protein and fats. However in order to get to the harder to reach fats, such as the belly fat, you must include regular exercise in order for your body to burn the stored fat. You can combine this with a fat burner which will help the body burn more fat during exercise, and continue the fat burning process even after training.

Hormones affecting Fat
At the end of day each individual is different; this means we will have different hormones and different levels which will effect where we store fat compared to the person next to us. So in the end it is advised to be smart with what diet you adapt to or physical exercises you do. Consult with your health doctor to insure your hormone levels are in check, and if you want to kick start your fat burning, consider a fat burner to help your process and bump up the fat burning during your exercises of simply throughout the day.

Anyways I hope this helps next time you have a little look in the mirror.
