Hello my name is michelle and I am new to this forum. I am a 31 year old mom of 1 boy who is 5 and I am happily married to a wonderfully supportive man. I have always been overweight but always seemed comfortable with my weight until I got pregnant. When I gave birth to my son I was 285 and lost 20 pounds real quickly after, but 4 months after I gave birth I got real sick and had my gallbladder removed which began all my medical issues I have now. After what should have been a common 2 hour surgery ended up with me on life support and in another hospital when I finally woke up I spiraled into a depression that 5 years later I am trying to climb out of. I have not even shared this number with my husband but I weigh 450 lbs today and am miserable. The surgery left me with chronic pain and a 19 inch scar across my stomach and down my right side which limits what I can do. I would love to work out at a gym but EVERYTHING hurts and anxiety is paralyzing, but I know I must go through some pain to see results. I am here now because I am coming to the realization that I need support and need to reach out to others to help with the anxiety end. I would love any suggestions and look forward to losing alongside all the wonderful people i have read a little about on here. Thanks for listening and Have a great losing day!!

Have you talked with a health care professional about your issues with anxiety and depression? Sounds like that should be a high priority for you...

Welcome ot the forum and do spend some time reading around the stickied threads - especially in nutrition, on topic and exercise...

Weight loss doesnt have to be difficult - if you want to do it... and you have to really decide for yourself that you're ready... to do it.. It's not scary.. it involves eating reasonable amounts of healthy foods (not starving yourself with 1200 calories a day) and starting out by walking for exercise...

start yourself a diary below - its a great place to get support -keep track of your challenges and successes and allows people to get to know you better... read other diaries and you might find people in similar circumstances...

Hi Michelle,

First let me say CONGRATS on taking such a big step!!! That's awesome and it's a start! Then let me say sorry for all that you have went through!!!:grouphug:
I have some anxiety about things as well....and it does effect me some now that i think about it in my daily life....but i just basically deal with it and find another route....
But anyways LOL before i start yapping to much...if you would like to become weightloss buddies or anything just let me know i'll be happy to be :biggrinjester:

I wish you well on your journey to better health. Keep in touch with us, I will be tracking your success.

First of all, well done on taking the decision to make a big change, I too suffer from intense anxiety and so I know how daunting it can feel to make a change in case it backfires.

Dealing with your nutritional issues may make you feel more positive in yourself which may improve your overall mood, as well if you're suffering then it may be worthwhile to see a therapist. If leaving the house is a problem for you because of the pain then I'm sure you could find a therpist who would be happy to visit you at home.

Good luck with your new life, if you want somebody to talk to then I would be happy to be a dieting buddy as I too have rather a lot of weight to lose *gulp*

Thanks for the support!!

Thnaks for all the support so far I look forward to losing along with you all. To answer the question yes I am in the care of a wonderful therapist and am looking forward to starting small and working this all out. I have a goal to lose 15 lbs by the end of april because I have a court date for my malpractice trial so I am hoping this can help my anxiety of being in front of so many people. Thanks all again

when I first started my weight loss adventure -I had over 200lbs to lose...

When you have that much to lose - putting weight loss goals into numbers can be a little overwhelming - especially when the scale doesn't always cooperate...

What you might want to consider doing - iinstead of making 15lbs your goal- focus on behavior... walk for 20 minutes every day... Drink xxx amount glasses of water every day... Replace sodas or sugary drinks with water... Make positive changes -- Replace fatty snacks with fruits/vegetables... Keep track of your calories... Behavioral changes and every day you do this - give yourself a check mark...

it's said it takes 21 days to build a habit - so 21 check marks later... you'll have a solid habit built and with that habit -the pounds will follow...
