bathroom breaks vs. H2O consumption

I started taking 3g of Creatine daily, about a month ago, so I've increased my water intake to about 3 liters per day. I'm going to the bathroom once every half hour and I'd like to know if that's normal, or if I'm drinking too much water.

Any thoughts?

With Creatine, you should take in about a gallon of water a day. And you're peein a lot for 2 reasons: A) you're drinkin a lot of water, and B) Creatine flushes through your system. Really keep track of any pain, discomfort or out of the ordinary symptoms. Creatine has had some negative effects on people's kidney's. If you suspect anything, the DR can do simple bloodwork to test your creatitine levels. Creatine can be great, but be smart. Better safe than sorry;)

Thanks Buck It. No pain or other weirdness. But is 3g per day really enough to cause a problem? I was under the impression that it was less than most people take. I didn't even load to start.

So every 1/2 hour is normal? If I'm just peeing it back out, what's the point of drinking so much in the first place? I'm sure that it's not all going right through me, but it just seems kind of futile to drink water just to make myself go to the bathroom. If I drank enough to pee every hour instead, would that hurt anything?

Anything you put in your body gets digested, and the nutrients absorbed. What comes out is waste. I you eat/drink anything more frenquently you will expend waste more frequently as well. Do you have a high metobolism? I do, and I have to pee a lot. Specially at night:mad: . But it's because I'm styin hydrated. Multi-vitamins can also have this effect.

And yes, I have heard anecedotal evidence that 3 grams of Creatine can hurt you. Creatine is found in meats and in your own body as well. Some people can process larger amounts of protein/creatine than others. Make sure your Creatine is fresh. It has a shelf life of about 6 months. After that it breaks down into toxic creatitine. Many discount creatines are shipped from China or whatever and there's no way to determine how long it's been sittin in a warehouse. Only deal with reputable brands/companies for Creatine. GNC is pricey, but safe.

That's my point exactly. Let me rephrase the question...

If I'm peeing every 1/2 hour, am I drinking more water than I have to?

Anyone?

*sigh*
Creatine does NOT have negative effects on healthy kidneys. Creatine itself doesn't even have negative effects on un-healthy kidneys.
But using low grade creatine or letting creatine sit mixed for a few days creates more creatinine, a useless degraded form of creatine, which IS problematic for people with existing kidney problems.

peeing every 30 minutes is fine for a newbie... Your bladder will adapt with time and it will only be every 32 minutes.

(-:

I pee alot too. My wife is like, "Damn, are you still peeing??"

And salt is underrated.
I add a pinch of salt to my bottle of water I take to the gym to keep me from rushing to the bathroom every half hour and because I'm losing salt when sweating.

Really, you know that for a medical certainty? If so, I'd love to see your research. If not you're just poppin off. I didn't say creatine DOES or DOES NOT have a negative effect on your kidney's. I said that there is ANECTDOTAL evidence of such. I figured a reasonably intelligent person can take anectdotal evidence for what it's worth. To me, if there is multiple accounts of a side effect, while it doesn't make it automatically true, it does make you think. I use supplements that contain Creatine. But after readin some stories, I'm more conscious of any possible warning signs. Just be aware, that's all. Awarness is the key to prevention. Fact: Both Creatine and Protein can be processed differently in different people. What is a healthy amount of either can very from person to person. Too much protein or creatine can be hard on the kidneys, that is medical fact. But "too much" is a relative term. IMO it's dangerous and irresponsible for people like you to give others the green light on supplements. Better to be overly cautious than overly trusting, especially with the lack of hard research available. Touting something as "safe" could well set someone up for disaster. People tend to believe what they want to believe. They quote obscure articles from so called "experts". But I highly doubt people turn to true medical research to make their decisions. Whatever. Do whatever you want. I've said my piece.

getting off-topic, but...

Buck It, I appreciate the cautious approach. I researched creatine for almost a year before I finally tried it. The links I posted to the artcles by David Barr on T-Nation's site are examples of very well researched articles and are backed up with extensive bibliographies.

I have not based my decison on information from obscure articles from so called experts that are not based upon research, as you have alluded to.

It wasn't so much directed at you personally, but my apologies if I came across as such. I just get irritated at some of the muscle heads giving advice these days. Some of the advice flyin around the internet these days is just dangerously ignorant. Most people who want to work out aren't body builders, they're just normal guys/gals that want to get in better shape. Guess I need to break out of my mental models a bit. I will read the articles you posted, and in the future, will try to look harder before I leap;)
