Hello, I am going to be in a barefist boxing fight. I need to know what workouts will help me throw quicker punches. I am sure that I will be winning the fight, but I want to do it as quickly as possible. This is not going to be a streetfight, it will be barefist boxing. I want to quicken my punches. I already have a fairly strong upperbody from swimming. What workouts would be the best to quicken my punches? I have curling weights, a machine to do bench press type exercises and leg curles. I do not have a punching bag. Also getting lower abdominal muscle would be helpful aswell. Thanks!

First of all, that's nuts. Full contact? I'm assuming so... but really, if you get hit in the throat you could die. Don't be stupid.

Im a boxer and first off, a bare nuckle boxing match is just plain stupid...but hey if your going to do it and you dont have equipment to train for boxing then i would suggest just doing some simple shadow boxing (which is simply pretending there is an opponent in front of you and you move around and throw punches at it. basicly fighting someone who isnt there, but try not to go nuts just try to stick to proper form) and to increase your explosive power do some upperbody plyometrics, like doing pushups where you launch yourself off the ground and clap before you come back down. Thats all for the free lesson today. Oh yea...good luck.

Well, don't worry, I am going to win, the person I am facing is called a hellicopter puncher. They just fling their arms around like a helicopter. I just want to be able to end it quick and not get hurt badly myself. Also would boxing with gloves to practice help, or is it a different thing?

not smart

what do you think this is the fight club or something? a movie? Do you have something to prove?

Boxing is a skill and a art form, had a good friend that was a five time golden glove champ and a pro boxer, he highly discourages bare fisted fighting.

not worth it unless your life is at stake,

ok, I used to be a boxer and there are many things you can do to increase punching power and speed:

1: INCREASE YOUR FOOT SPEED; your feet and the speed at which you strike effects how effective your punch is. Take a jump rope and start doing about 200 a day. Then take duct tape and make a cross on the ground. From there, you can invent a variety of agility excercises.

2: DO BARE KNUCKLE PUSHUPS ; Find a hard surface such as concrete, hardwood floor, or tile. Then do normal pushups but instead of using your palms and fingers, use your knuckles. You would not believe how much this increases your knuckle strength.

3. INCREASE POWER, NOT JUST STRENGTH ; power is a measure of speed and strength in lifting. You need to be incredibly explosive when you lift weights and perform your cardio

4. RUN, RUN, and RUN SOME MORE : The number one thing that affects how well you throw a punch is your endurance... if you have crappy endurance, your form will be off and you will tire, and your punches will no longer pack any power

5. PERFECT FORM: If you have great form, you have an excellent punch. Learn the position that you feel is right for your knuckles in the ideal punch. Knuckle placement, stance, and strike pattern will make your punches more effective.

Bare knuckle fighting is risky, just remember, don't throw the first punch, land the first deadly one.

I wouldn't follow this advice at all. But then again I'm not a boxer, I'm a Wing Chun fighter.

Throw the first good punch. Preferably the first (and the last) punch of the fight.

What I am saying is... Don't just go out and throw the first punch, because it is the guy who gets careless first and leaves him self exposed that gets killed.... so what I said was, throw the first deadly punch.

Oh little advice. If he just throws his arms about he is bound to get tired. Wait for him to get into heavy breathing then start nailing him. But why bare nuckle may I ask?

alot of these fights are "first punch win" fights. Ive seen some streetfights, which is basicly barefist boxing where i come from. The first guy who getts hit getts stunned for a little while and the other one just keeps on going, which is usually the part where me/other spectators jump inn to keep them apart.

This thread is crazy - who is this guy?

Dont do it man. If you loose, you'll get hurt. And if you win, he'll prob just come back and get you another time. Nobody wants to walk around looking over there shoulder.
If there is gonna be a fight the only way you can win is if you stop it before it starts. Your gonna get hurt or in trouble.

Mok is 100% correct. And were you seriously thinking of training for a fight without a punching bag?

You're not going to gain anything significant in the ways of speed and conditioning within a week or two, or whenever you're going to fight. Just fight him. If he's windmilling, then just get your timing down, or whatever. It doesn't matter. None of this crap matters to you right now.

hey its pretty dangerous but heres some advice

Listen some good advice is to stay away from the guy about 2 arms length when he comes charging at you with a careless punch you move to the side and push his arm intowards his body he will be defenceless u can use your elbow from their and take him out or get some ground and give him a good punch. But dont go for the first punch because he could block or move away and just hit you. But either way its pretty stupid to fight like this even UFC fighter have some type of protection so noone gets killed but its up too you you make your own choices.

This sounds like 2 kids fighting in the playground during recess.....
