Okay, so I'm posting this because I can't figure out what is happening with my body right now... I am 5'10 132 pounds... lighter than most people that are 5'10. I have been lifting for a while now, seeing some decent improvements with my strength... and I've lost 5 pounds since I started. Here is what I'm confused about... I've been eating 500 calories under my maintenance level and as a result I've lost about 5 pounds... However, I don't know where I'm losing the weight and I don't know what kind of weight I'm losing.

I can't really see any visible difference in my abdominal region... It still has fat covering the abs somehow, can barely see the top 2 abs, the middle two arent visible, and the bottom two have a slight pudge over them. I haven't lost any muscle, I've actually gained muscle while losing the 5 pounds, and yet I don't seem to have lost a noticeable amount of fat either. My bicep size has increased from 12.25" to almost 13". My waist size hasn't moved... it's been 29", and my hips are still 32". Sorry if I'm ranting, it is just getting a little frustrating at the moment heh.

My question is this, I would think most people that are 5'10" 132 pounds with a 29" waist would at least have a 4-pack? My 1RM bench is about 150 pounds so maybe it's because I just have a lot of fat and little muscle that makes up the 132? Do I have to cut to like 120 pounds to have abs or something? That seems ridiculously skinny. I just cant understand how my muscles have visibly gotten bigger, I've lost 5 pounds, and yet I haven't visibly lost any fat. Maybe my abs are genetically bad :(

Oh well, I'll keep sticking with it and hopefully someday they will appear.

agree with cynic. by my count you are a good 22lbs underweight by most standards of calculating 'ideal' weight for a 5'10" male

Well I'm only 17 so my weight would be less than say the average 25 year old 5'10" male... If I'm 22 pounds underweight why would I have fat on my stomach still??? I'm just trying to stay thin until after my senior trip to water world which is tomorrow, and then I will start bulking... but it kinda kills my hopes that even when I'm 22 pounds underweight I have belly fat.

because you're low on lean muscle mass, and high on bodyfat.

when I say yer underweight, what I mean is you're under muscled...you need to develop that.

You can't be more than 5lbs over weight in terms of fat...so don't mess with cutting...eat cleanly, and just a little over maintenance, and pack on some muscle. Having muscle results in more calories burned.

you should be able to drop a couple pounds of fat while adding muscle initially.
