My name is Tyler. I'm 22. I was a member here like October of 09 or something. I was trying to cut weight, and while I did cut a bit, I'm still not where I want to be. I started out at 205, and after working out and starting to eat healthy, I dropped down to 185. This is where I sit now. I'm not happy with how I look right now, and I've known for a while, I need to lose weight. Now is my time.

Goals:
- I want to cut back to ~155 pounds, however, I plan on lifting a lot to get my muscular balance where I would like it. I'm hoping when all said and done, I'm 170ish.

- Run a half marathon in the next 12 months

- Begin training in martial arts. It's been a dream of mine to get into MMA.

If all else fails, I'd just like to be more fit. I have plenty of time on my hands so getting to the gym is not an issue. The issue is getting my mindset around eating proper foods.

I think this is enough of a rant for an introduction

Tyler,

Welcome. I hope that this is more than a rant and that you plan on doing stuff to lose weight. It looks like you lost some weight and what you did worked. How did you gain the weight orignally? How did you lose the initial 20 lbs? It seems like you may need to just continue what you have been doing as long as it is healthy.

Let me know

I started gaining wait when I stopped playing hockey (college didn't have hockey so yea..). I was probably 150ish during hockey, and when I decided to lose weight, I was 205.

How did I lose the weight? Cleaning up my diet. I didn't count calories or any of that. I just cut out the garbage (pop, etc) and went to the gym occassionaly.

And yes, this is for real now. I'm losing this weight. I'm trying to turn my life around in other aspects, so why not help the whole situation by getting healthier.

I'm going to do what I did before, but on the next level. The gym is going to be my church. Working out is going to be my religion. I'm hoping to shed this weight by mid summer, but we will see.

I've been very inactive since I got out of hockey, but now I'm looking to get back into it. Both inline hockey as well as ice hockey. As I mentioned above, I also would like to run a marathon one day.

Tyler, I think your plan just might work, and I wouldn't want to discourage you from exercising, which is a healthy thing to do. However, I think a little more attention to calories might pay big dividends as it's generally easier to cut the calories than to burn them. Besides that, it's good to keep track of how much protein you are getting and that sort of thing.

I've been thinking about that.. and overall, I'm just not sure how I can do it. My days are pretty whacked in terms of when and how much I consume food. Lunch one day could be at 11am, the next day could be 2pm. I know I need to be keeping track, but I have yet to come up with a good way of doing so. Hopefully I can figure it out.

As an added note.. I just found out about a free skate (hockey) here in town and will be attending that weekly (once a week). If you've never played hockey, it is probably one of the better sports to get the blood pumping! That should help me. I also went out and purchased a pair of roller blades last night. I will be roller blading several times a week.

All I need to do now is figure out my eating habits and what not. I know Kara has some amazing recipe's she has shared around here and on her website, so I may just have to check those out again!

I know that you mentioned in initial post that you believe it is all about eating the proper foods. Well it isn't all really about eating the proper foods. It is about eating the right amount of food. Proper or not, is not the issue if you REALLY want to lose want.

If you would like to THINK you are losing weight, you can eat proper foods until they're coming out of your ears. But you won't lose weight until you the right amount. What you eat MUST BE LESS THAN WHAT YOUR BODY NEEDS. It's math only.

hey welcome to the forums...

If you play out and you have for many years your fast twitch muscle fibers are normally very good so when it does come to running you can get up and go very fast.

Skating is great.... from someone who does still play college hockey I can tell you running shape and hockey shape are two different things haha!!!

but in my year of getting back in shape from not playing in 2-3 years was the best time I have ever had... I fell back in love with the game and became more passionate than ever. I still remember the best times when I would get up in the am workout and then at night I would play hockey.

hope everything works out for you!!!!

ps roller hockey is not real hockey haha!!!
