Back Again for the first time.

Alright... I figured that I would post this here since I haven't been on the forums in 2 years. I lost 40lbs last time I was here and felt great. In the last few year life took a downturn and I gained all the weight back and then some. I am sure that the shift work over the last few years didnt help either(lack of decent sleep and access to healthy lunch alternates). So I have a goal now. My goal is to get back in shape and go back into the Army. I am sitting at 300lbs at the moment and need to lose a 120-140 to be at my optimal weight level. I am giving myself a year to year and a half to get it done. Hopefully that is enough time. If there are any prior service individuals on here that let themselves to pretty badly like I have, I would like to hear some incouraging words from you. Of course any encouragement is welcome also. I would just like to know that I am not the only one that was retarded enough to let it get this bad. As far as strength and energy goes I am still pretty good on those fronts. At least alot better than most people my size. I don't have the normal complaints of overweight people of this magnitude. I think it is because of my bigger frame and I still have quite a bit of the muscle that I built up while I was in the army the first time. So I do have that going for me

Hi, Lean! Welcome back to the forum. I'm not in the service (nor have I been) but I do weigh over 300 lbs, so I know what you're going through.

My best advice - Keep a food diary. If you bite it, write it. Keep track of everything you eat and drink and the calories of everything you consume. That's the single most important step to weight loss, in my opinion.

I've lost nearly 40 pounds in the past 3 1/2 months and I owe most of that to the knowledge I've gained from keeping faithful track of my food in my food journal.

Since it's been a while since you've been on you might want to take a look at the stickies - they can be very helpful. Also keeping a running post in the diary section here in the forum can help keep you motivated and accountable. :)

Thanks for the tips. I have a food log/calorie tracker at myfitnesspal.com I recommend that anyone who doesnt have one to check it out. I didnt have this tool last time I lost weight, so this time it should be a bit better. They even have an app for my iphone so that I can log on the go which makes it super easy. It is free also.
