Aw, nuts!

I love to sprinkle a small amount of nuts or sunflower seeds on my salad, and I know they are full of fat so I was wondering if there is any particular nut that is healthier for you? I have a vague memory of my mom telling me almonds have some essential fatty acid or something like that. Any thoughts?

most nuts are good for you, in moderation...

just go for the dry roasted variety or raw rather than the type that's been cooked in oil.

nuts

I've read about studies where those who ate a handful of almonds every day lost more weight than those who didn't. Also, peanuts are good for dieting.

you're right about the fat but it's the good fat that keeps your heart healthy and doesn't clog your arteries. they also have lots of protein and many nutrients.

I eat almonds almost daily.

Good point about the dry roasted. Most of the roasted nuts have trans-fats which is a killer for weight loss.

Good advice all around, I just want to put a spotlight on something you said here:

"... and I know they are full of fat so I was wondering if there is any particular nut that is healthier for you?"

This shows me that there is a good chance you are one of those dieters that has a 'fat phobia'. Listen, fat is healthy. Eating fat will help you LOSE fat. The main 'evil fat' is trans fat that you get from hydrogenated oils. And those aren't found in nuts.

So don't fear fat, just stay away from trans fats.
