Avacado?

I am looking to get some healhty fats so I purchased an avacado to try. I have had avacado a long time ago at someones party and didn't particularly like it. I figure now that I changed my diet, and like healthier foods, maybe I would like it. Other than knowing I have to peel it, how do you eat it. LOL! How does everyone eat their Avacado? Do you eat it whole? Mash it - and if you mash it, what do you mash it up with? Do you spread it on something?

I'll just typically peel it and eat it as it is with something else, not really mixing it. It's not bad tasting by itself; you'll get used to teh flavor.

Add it to salads or spread on your bread instead of butter. You can also make Guacamole dip (I'm sure there are plenty of reciepes on the internet). There's also Italian classic of tomato, mozarella and avocado with balsamic vinegar (just make sure you get low fat mozarella).

a good guacamole recipe is:
2 ripe avacado's
cilantro to taste
a chopped tomato
a clove or 2 of garlic (to taste)
some chopped onion, optional

i usually mash it all up with a potato masher
enjoy!

You don't need to peel it, that can get messy. Cut it in half and spoon it out.
I put it on whole grain bread (toasted) with sliced turkey breast (not the deli kind).
:)

Thanks for all your posts. I ate it today as a snack. I peeled it and ate about half of it. I liked it but half of it was plenty. I saved the other half and plan on putting it in my salad tomorrow. I found a lot of recipes for it on-line also. Thanks again.

While Avocados contain a significant source of folate & potassium it also contains a lectin which negatively affects approx. 50% of all people.
After digestion the lectin will proceed to invoke immune responses that damage the cell to which it attaches and possibly surrounding cells.
