At The Beginning Of My Journey

Hi All,

found this site this morning, and have been having a good nosey around, and thought it was only polite to say hello!!

Im Kate, 22, 15stone1 (211lb) and 5foot7. I have some far off goal of losing about 63lb i think, to get just below a bmi of 25. Thats far off in the distance though, so not worrying about it just yet.

For now, I want to get my body fit and healthy, start to put the right things in, and stop being so lazy!

Lack of exercise and binge eating are my massive flaws.

I love healthy food, I almost always automatically eat three heatlhy meals a day, sure have a take out here and there, wont think about healthiness when eating out, but my general eating on a normal day IS healthy.

Well, is healthy until the snacking starts. I binge for boredom, I binge for comfort, I binge for distraction, I binge for everything, night time munchies, daytime munchies, celbratorary munchies and sorrow drowning munchines. You name them, I eat them. Chocolate, crisps, cakes, sweets, pastries, fried foods, pizzas, anything and everything. Alcohol binges too. I AM A BINGER!!! well, I was, i've stopped that now, I hope!!

I lived in India last year (am British) and lost a shed load of weight, 2-3 clothes sizes dropped, without dieting once, ate what i want when i wanted, but i was busy, happy and had full days, so didnt have the time to binge, the opportunities to binge werent there like they are here. So came home with a whole new wardrobe and suddenly realised how much i'd lost. I have since then put back on 2 stone since September, and NEED to stop it. Am back in India from July, and REALLY dont want to go out there unfit and the size of a house, so, got a couple of months and a bit to get things underway here, sort my relationship with food out a little, so that i can continue out there.

Woah sorry, just realised this is a bit of a long one now, only wanted to stay hello!!!

Well, not following any specific plan or anything, I, like the rest of us, know what i should and shouldnt eat, know i should exercise, drink water etc etc so for now, im just trying to be sensible and change my habits, im mega saving for my trip, so cant really afford to pay to join a club or programme, and also, im no good at being in a rigid plan, or at being disaplined enough to cal count/point count properly, so gonna have a go at doing it myself first, and see what happens.

Began a couple of weeks since, and have lost 4lb so far, but only this week have I really starrted to WANT it, which has gotta be a good thing!!

Well, thanks for reading!!

If your ready to make this change in yourself - you'll be just as successful at doing it on your own as you would with someone you'd pay :)

Welcome to the site.. start yourself up a diary below if you haven't already - and use it to record your challenges and successes - it's the best place for support and to learn more about you :) plus it's a ncie record to go back to and see where you came from.

good luck and have fun while you're here.

hi kate and welcome. this forum is helping to keep me motivated, better than going to weightwatchers and jumping on the scales each week.
i too am a binger - big time, any reason or excuse. since ive started losing weight this time ive not been too bad, but the desire to be slim has done many a battle with my food demons. ive found having a little "cheat" now and again has helped me stay on track and stopped me feeling too deprived.
where abouts in india were you/will you be? i spent a couple months out there in my 20`s. was in northern india - delhi, kashmir, rajhastan, utter and himachel pradesh(dharamsala). i loved it once i had got used to a totally different culture etc. would love to go back one day, maybe when the kids are older. slim

Hiya and thanks for the replies!!

Having fun looking about the site at the moment, and if it does one thing, it gives me a distraction from eating :) and everything else  hmmm!!

Slim, last year in India I was working in Bangalore, spent a little time in Pune and Goa too. This summer Im volunteering for a charity in Mapusa, Goa for three months and then travelling around the south, Kerela, Karnatika and Tamil Nadu, and popping to see a few friends in Bombay. I would LOVE to see North India, but will have to save that for another year, the country is sooooo vast you could spend years exploring it! Thinking of spending time in Calcutta at the begninng of next year, and that will be an easier base to see the North.

Well, I am loving this place already, having found it, I kinda feel that losing my fat suit IS possible, never really believed that when i've messed about with weight loss before.

I have a few questions re the forum and how it works, wasnt really sure where else to post, and im sure there will be instructions and explanations somewhere, but i cant find them!!

Was just wondering what the four boxes at the bottom of each post mean (digg this post, add post to del.icio.us, bookmark post in technorati and Furl this post)

Also, how does the quote thing work? I've tried it but it never looks like it should!!

What are the scales and 'adding to reputation' all about?

Erm, that will prob do for starters, I dont want to be a pain!! If these have already been aswered please just point me to the relevant place!!

Cheers,

Kate x
