At it again

Hello, My name is Dennis. I am 5' 11" and almost 40 years old. I have been married for almost 12 years and have three children. I am tired of being overweight and not fitting into my clothes correctly so I have just started working out and eating right again. Not to mention how uncomfortable I feel at this weight. I was never over weight until I turned 29. I was always active, biking, hackey sacking, playing any kind of sport I could squeze in, and lifting weights since I was a scrawny little 13 year old.

I lost a bunch of weight (60 lbs) a few years ago and then for some insane reason I stopped working out. That was the begining of the end. Needless to say I have put most of that weight back on (all but ten pounds).

I am now changing my life style for good. I know that the exercise and obeying the 90/10 rule will have to be a permanent part of my life now. I am only in the first week of a twelve week cycle of body-for-life right now but have already lost 3 lbs. I just weighed in this morning for the first time in a week. I do not like to see it every day. It will drive a person mad if you catch yourself after a cheat day. Oh, I had better explain that..... as a body-for-lifer, you get one day off called your cheat day. The amount of cheating is up to the individual, and I have to admit, some times it is hard to cheat because I am afraid of negating my week of hard work, but i make myself so i can keep on track. It actually plays in to the sucess of this program.

My start weight was 230 at the begining of my cycle and my goal weight is to be 180 - 185 again. That is where I feel comfortable. I am hoping to be able to complete this cycle and hit my goal by the time my family and I take off for Disney. I want to go on the water park rides, but not sporting this gut.

I hope that I can stay on my schedule that I have set for myself and reach the goal. I take that back...... I know i can do it!!!!

Thanks for reading and wish me luck.

Good luck friend.

230 is a weight I cannot wait to get to lol.

Then my goal will be only 30lbs in sight which I can lose in a little over a month.

Just pound away at the cardio and you'll get to your goal too.

Don't give up!

welcome to the forum - do start a diary to record your successes and challenges and allow us to get to know you better

have fun while you are here and ask any questions yo might have

I was always active, biking, hackey sacking, playing any kind of sport I could squeze in, and lifting weights since I was a scrawny little 13 year old.

Hackey sacking...that brings back memories for me. I used to play in front of the library at Hampshire College, one of the times in my life when I was the most fit.

You talk about a crazy reason for quitting working out after your earlier weight loss. I'd think on that one if I were you.

Why after losing some, most, or all of our excess weight do we stop doing what we did to lose the weight and invite it all back (and maybe more)?

For me losing weight is not hard, living as a fit healthy person is the challenge.

Do start up a diary, I'd be interested to know why you (like me) got down to your ideal weight and then turned back. There is a lesson here that is well worth learning for some of us.

I'm 46, 5-11, father of three (boys) currently 255 wanting to get down to 200then we'll see where I go from there. So we have this much in common!

Welcome, there are a bunch of good folks here who are willing to help.

Hello every one and thanks for the encouragement. I tried to post some thing yesterday but it is not here. No great loss.

I have had a great week in my mission. I have eaten all of the meals that I have planned on, and hit all of my work outs as planed as well. All in all I am right on track. My weight loss is coming a little slower than expected, but my pants are getting looser. I must be gaining muscle at the same rate i am burning ft. I feel so much better already.

Todays plan consists of

Meal 1: Myoplex (vanilla flavored)
Meal 2: Three chicken tenders grilled last night and an apple
Meal 3: Salad with carrots, ham, onion, and a little cheese, and fat free dressing
Meal 4: Tomato Basil wrap with red leaf lettuce, turkey, swiss cheese, and fat free raspberry vingrete dressing
Meal 5: Small peice of pork, sauteed green beans, and small potato
Mela 6: Light cottage cheese and a yogurt

I also have my least favorite exercise to do...... the dreaded lower body workout. I am not a fan of this one at all, but it has to be done.

Wish me luck in my endeavors.

Today is Saturday and tomorrow is my cheat day. I had a good work out last night, all though I am very sore this morning. I am walking like a very old man. I think that this is due to the lunges with 20 lb weights in my hands. I stuck to the plan and that is what matters.

Last night I did leg extensions, leg curls, leg presses, calf raises, and to end it all lunges.

This was probably my undoing. My legs have not stopped hurting since I completed the last lunge. All in the name of progress? No pain no gain? What ever the cliche, the all mean one thing........OUCH!!!

Today however is a Cardio Day. A good 2 mile run should help the legs out...... ya right. Have to keep moving. That is what I tell myself as I push my self way out of my comfort zone.

The diet today will be as follows:
Meal 1: Yogurt
Meal 2: Cottage Cheese and an apple
Meal 3: Tomato basil wrap with mustard, turkey, swiss cheese, and red leaf lettuce.
Meal 4: peice of grilled pork and another apple
Meal 5: Grilled chicken and a salad with fat free dressing
Meal 6: Myoplex

I can not wait to weigh in again next Wednesday. That is the day I choose, but I know even if there is no significnt loss in weight, I am getting in shape and my clothes are fitting better, so lean muscle must be replacing the fat that I am burning.

"If you fail to plan you are planning to fail."

Have a good week end and be careful at the barby....

Monday Morning and all is well. I made it through my cheat day and did not go over board. Had a few Mich ultras and a few pieces of corn on the cob. Nothing crazy.

Today is a Lower body workout day which is one of my favorites. I can't wait to see my gains on the bench.

Today's meals are as follows:

Meal 1: Yogurt
Meal 2: Low Fat Cottage Cheese
Meal 3: Turkey wrap with mustard and Lettuce
Meal 4: 3 Grilled chicken tenders and 1 apple
Meal 5: Steak and Potato with green beans
Meal 6: Myoplex

I also have been taking Mega Men vitamins, Flaxseed oil, and green tea every morning. I do not take any weight loss pills or any other supplements.

My run on Saturday was great. I hit all of my numbers for the intervals that I am running.

I start off walking at 3 on the teadmill for 2 minutes, then I go to 4 for 1 minute, 5 for 1 minute, 6 for 1 minute, 6 1/2 for 1 minute, and that is done 4 times. On the fourth time around I add in 7 for 1 minute then cool down going from 4 - 2 until i regain my breathing. Usualy this is a 25 minute workout. I went 1.8 miles Saturday.

One final note: I think that this helps, writing it down for every one to see. It helps me motivate myself to keep on track.

Thank you for this web site.

Hello fellow life changers. How is the battle going? Today is a Cardio day. I am starting to enjoy these again. For the past two weeks it has not been very much fun to run, but the stronger I get the more I enjoy them.

Well I was very excited yesterday because of the upper body lifting that I got to do. As I mentioned yesterday it is my favorite!!! I tried benching 205 lbs and managed to get three clean lifts of this. I may have been able to do more but only being on my second week and a whole upper body to go I chose to settle into my planned work out.

Meals for today are as follows:

Meal 1: Myoplex
Meal 2: Turkey wrap with lettuce and mustard
Meal 3: Low Fat Cottage Cheese and 1 Apple
Meal 4: 1 small piece of left over steak and Green beans
Meal 5: Power Bar
Meal 6: Yogurt

Add a 25 min run and we have the makings of a Great Day!!!!

My Quote for the day....."If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail."

Yeah!!! 7 lbs down and only 33 to go. Yesterday was my day off from work and I ended up doing work on my house....... all day. I Had to remove a sliding glass door and replace it with a window and some wall. I used to do this for a living and I did not realize how out of shape I had gotten. My hands and arms were cramping up on me so bad I couldn't hold the hammer any more.

All in all a good work out. My body was so sore from the remodle, I couldn't do my lower body. But I figured it had a very good work out climbing up and down the ladder all day.

Today however is a Cardio Day!! I am looking forward to the run tonight.

Todays meals consist of:

Meal 1: 3 scrambled eggs
Meal 2: Strawberry Myoplex
Meal 3: Turkey and swiss wrap
Meal 4: Yogurt
Meal 5: grilled chicken with wax beans and salad
Meal 6: Power bar.

I some times sit and think about why I have had the knowledge to do this for almost all of my life and just did not keep active and eating right? I guess it all adds up to I just didn't care enough about being healthy. It makes me sad to think that I had so little self respect for myself that I was willing to risk my health and possibly shorten my life.

Some times we get so wrapped up in the little things in life we forget that Life is all we really have, and you had better do everything you can to hold on to that.

And now for my quote of the day:

"When some one tells you that they don't have enough time to work out, what they are really saying is that they choose to do something else with their time."

100% agree! You are doing really well. Wecome!

Thank you Care 180!! I really appreciate it. I am very determined to make my goal.

I had a great cardio last night. I ran 2 miles in 24:05 minutes. Not one of my best times historicaly, but my best since I got back on the right track. I ran last night as follows:

Warm up for 2 minutes at 4 mph
Run for 1 minute at 5 mph
Run for 1 minute at 5 1/2 mph
Run for 1 minute at 6 mph
Run for 1 minute at 6 1/2 mph
Do these for 4 cycles and at the end of the 4th run 1 minute at 7 mph.

Now this used to be childs play, but I want you to know it was a war last night to make it through. Several times I wanted to back the speed off, but I kept thinking of hitting my goal and how important that it was to keep going.

Guess what today is? It is Upper Body Lifting Day!!!! By and far this is my favorite. I get such satisfaction from this work out. I am not sure why that is but hey, at least I get to enjoy some of this.

Todays meals are:

Meal 1: Power Bar
Meal 2: Strawberry Myoplex
Meal 3: 2 Hard Boiled Eggs and Yogurt
Meal 4: Turkey and Swiss Cheese Wrap
Meal 5: Grilled Chicken Breast, Wax Beans, and Salad
Meal 6: Cottage Cheese

Well that is it for today. I am mentaly strong and have my 12 weeks all planed out. The food we go day to day, but for the most part I have my work outs, resting periods, and basic meal plans all set.

Well, another good day yesterday. I had my upper body lift and before I started I wanted to check my max on the bench. This is something I enjoy doing. I manged to push up 230 lbs. My strength is coming back pretty fast. I just started my third week and have already increased my bench by almost 40 lbs. YES!!!!

Today is a Cardio Day. I will try to repeat the run I had on Thursday and I hope that it is a little easier this time. I try to push myself to the point where I don't think I can go any more and then give it my all inspite of that fact. The more effort you put into the workout, the bigger the gains are.

Meals for today:

Meal 1: 3 Scrambled Eggs. I only ate about 1/2 of them then gave the rest to my daughter.
Meal 2: Left over steak and red potatoes
Meal 3: yogurt
Meal 4: power bar
Meal 5: steak strips
Meal 6: Myoplex

As I have said before I am not new to exercise, but have gone a couple of years with out doing any consistantly. Other than for that period of time I was always athletic. So to have the recovery of my strength and endurance is not surprising. If you once had it it is easier to get it back than it is for some one who did not do that much prior to their new life change.

Just remember that you did not gain all of the weight that you want to lose in a single day, so it is going to take a while to lose it. There is no easy fix to it, you have to chip away a little at a time and do not stop. Your persistance will pay off in the end.

My quote for the day.........
"If losing weight was easy, everyone would be skinny."

Hi Dennis,

You're off to a great start. You're doing so well with your exercising and you're meals!

I saw you mentioned that you started your diary in the wrong section... if you ask one of the moderators they have the ability to move the location of the tread... if you'd really like it to be in the diary section:)

Keep up the great work

Lol, Friday night my Wife and I were beat and didn't feel like cooking and we agreed to get a small vegetarian pizza. I wrestled with my conscience and decided I'd have three pieces, the forth would go to my two year old son who would likely not eat it all and I could snarf up the scraps! Bwahahah!

Well, the little sh*t ate his whole piece, one of his Mom's and started picking at the rest of mine!!!

Can't even cheat in piece with kids around, huh?

Sounds like you're doing great!

David

DCarr10760, that is rough. Just when you think you have the kids figured out they go and surprise you. At least mine do that to me all the time any way.

Well Back to Monday. Yesterday was my cheat day. I had a few beers and some chineese food. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! But today is the begining of my week again so back at it!!

Sunday we took our oldest child to boyscout camp for the week. He was so looking forward to it. He earned the week selling popcorn. He sold over $1,000.00 and was top in his whole Den for individual sales. Ata boy. This way I do not have to pay out of my pocket.

Today I am feeling not so good from the beers. Maybe I cheated too much. Whoops.

The plan today consists of

Lower body workout and the menu is as follows:

Meal 1: Power Bar
Meal 2: Yogurt
Meal 3: Left over Steak & Potatoes
Meal 4: Myoplex (It is chocolate, mmmmmmmmmm my favorite)
Meal 5: Grilled Chicken
Meal 6: Cottage Cheese

I am not sure if I ever mentiones it but I also consume 16oz. glass of water with each of my meals.

I also take 2 Mega Men Vitamins, 2 Flax Seed oil tablets, and green tea every day as well.

My clothes fit so much better than they did three weeks ago. I love it. I actually have a bunch of 34's when I lose enough. It will be like getting all brand new clothes. It has been so long since I have fit into them they will be all new to me.

Meal 4: Left over steak and Potatoes
Meal 5: Grilled Chicken Salad
Mela 6: Myoplex
