army training

by may, i need to be able to carry 80 lbs for up to 13km, and run 7 km in 35 minutes. i was wondering waht kind of weight training i should do to help both of those. currently i'm going for muscular endurance, working most major muscles 3 sets of 15-12-15 reps, 3 times a week. also i'm a 19 yr f, 5'4 and 115 lbs. any ideas? can i see an improvement by may at this rate?

Wow, sounds like you have your work cut-out for you. For strengthening lower body I would recommend lunges with dumbells or bar, squats and/or leg presses. Also maybe work some toe-raises with weight, (when I hike with alot of weight my calves are always the first to go.)
Try to work some hikes into your spring schedule if your location permits it. If not try running/walking stairs in a local stadium, adding a pack and progressively increasing the weight over time.
Just remember to start slow and dont over do it. Good luck.

Are you just going through Basic? If so you wont need to do that much... Although if you decide to strive towards that, great.. When you enter basic if you can run 2 miles in about 15 minutes you are set... They will train you to do better for your APFT... Where are you going to basic? I went to Ft. Jackson last summer. Also you will need to work on your pushups and situps...
