This is an interesting thread. My folks were pretty average in weight. We never had extra money, so didn't do DQ or McD's very often. Mom cooked simply - until Dad got a night job, and my older sibs were out lots. At that point she just kind of stopped cooking. I was about 12 or so. And that weight just piled right on. Exercise was certainly never a priority, either.
The irony for me is that, after 10 yrs as a SAHM, I had to go out to work. And what was the first thing go by the wayside at home? COOKING, of course! I never did like cooking, and now I am so frazzled trying to raise kids, look after a husband, look after myself, and run the household that I'll be darned if I am going to spend one more ounce of energy doing something I hate that's gone in five minutes!
*sigh*
I see in this thread that this is a common, sad, and dangerous problem that is surely contributing to the epidemic of obesity in North America. Families can't get by financially on just one income, but when moms have to go out to work, the family suffers. At least, that's the way it seems to me.
