Are there any walkers here?

Walking is my only form of exercise right now. We have a treadmill at my house and I'm starting slow, just a 25 minute walk. I actually like the treadmill as opposed to outside, I sweat a lot when I walk inside. Maybe it's because I'm paying attention to my pace and form, instead of the pretty trees. That said, I'm anxiously awaiting an end to this winter so I can get out and enjoy the fresh air!

I sweat quite a lot as well. That is why on work days I take the bus to work and walk home. If I walked to work I would be socially unacceptable by the time I got there.

I did four miles this morning but I took it a little slower than usual. It took about 1:10. I think I did a little too much yesterday and my body was telling me it was not going to go fast this morning but still it felt good. I find myself now looking forward to the next walk. Even though I feeling sort of heavy and slow this morning I am already thinking about getting up tomorrow morning and making another go of it.

My car broke down. I had the option of buying a new one or fixing it (not really an option, cheaper than a new car but the car isn't worth $100 and it would be over 2k to fix it, or close). So I decided to walk everywhere until June. Then, I can reward myself with a new car.

My goal is to walk to the store, to the gym (this I prefer, since its a good warm-up instead of using the treadmill for a few minutes, i always feel silly getting on and getting right off.) to work. The only problem is when I need to do like serious clothes shopping or something. I could go into the city OR walk to Target, but those are both extremes. Targets not exactely around the corner. Still, if I walk everywhere it should help me with some weight loss. I think.

Walking will certainly help with weight loss. I also find that the more I walk the shorter distances start to seem. I once thought 4 miles was a considerable hike but now it hardly seems worth thinking about. Perhaps the more you walk the more comfortable you will be walking here and there.

I rather like the sense of independence in getting from place to place soley (har har) under my own power. I don't have to depend on any sort of vehicle. Just me and my two feet.

I would love a treadmill... you can wear whatever you like without worrying you might be seen and I would just stomp my way through all my tv shows!

(For now looks like I'm stuck with walks out and about. ;))

I am, but only until the snow melts and I can get my bike out. The treadmill's too boring, plus the one I use isn't all that great. There's an amazing one up here in a room with a fan and a TV, but, since I'm up at night, I can't use it. :cuss:

But, after doing it every night for 16 nights so far, A) Last night, I finally went a half-hour, one mile, and B) my legs feel like rocks. \m/

I managed 13 miles yesterday. It was not all at one time but still...
Aye, that's definitely an accomplishment. Well done!

I'm going to be walking a lot more this month. I'm planning to do this fun run/walk (I'm walking it) in March which is about 8.4 km. The longest walk I've done so far is 5.2 km, so I've got to build it up.
