I think my main use for this diary will be to document what I eat on a daily basis. I've tried the sites where you plug your food in and it gives you the calories and all that crap, but it's just too time consuming. I'm not really worried about calories or fat grams anyway- I just want to eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full and be aware of what I'm putting in my body. No fake stuff; chemicals, white flour, HFCS, stuff I can't pronounce or spell... I think that and moving my body will get me where I want to be and keep me there.

I actually started this plan on Monday, but just got set up on this site yesterday, so my food diary will start today. This morning I had a great breakfast: breakfast taco- 1 egg, 2 egg whites, spinach, mushrooms, onions and homemade salsa on a ww tortilla. YUM! I drank my green tea and chugged some grapefruit juice with psyllium. That stuff really helps keep me full between meals. Working on my second cup of coffee here at work, then I'll be hittin' the water. For a snack I have ff cottage cheese with mixed berries. Don't know about lunch yet... I'll have to think on that.

Good lunch today. Veggie burger patty topped with mushrooms, onions, 1 tbsp 2% shredded cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup all natural marinara sauce. Spinach and grapefruit salad with raisins. Skim milk. I could have eaten 2 patties, but I ate slow and drank my milk, and I got pretty full. I had DH buy
2 9" plastic plates the other day for us to eat on. It totally helps my portion control. It's amazing how the small things can make such a difference.

hi aquaholic,

I am using small dinner plates too, so that my smaller (realistic) portions will fill my plate. I find too, that cutting my food slowly into smaller bites and eating in slow motion (chewing slowly, focusing on the flavor and texture of what I am eating) is a big help in actually feeling satsified after I finish eating. It is when I have not had my snacks that I am most hungry (usually happens at dinner) and it is harder to do. I try to drink one of my 16 oz bottles of water about 15 minutes before dinner is ready and that helps a lot.

Hello again aquaholic...glad to see you started your diary. I too find it to time consuming to plug in all my numbers into a calorie counting site. I find it easier to just write it down as I go...it just works for me and why fix something that isn't broken...right? lol Looks like you are on the right track- keep up the good work.

Thank ya'll for your feedback. I really think doing this is going to help me tremendously. And knowing people can see what I'm doing will help keep me on track. :)

So, the weekend is upon me. I'm kind of worried about tonight. DH wants to go out dancing. Fine, I love to dance. My problem is I also love to drink when I dance. I haven't had any alcohol all week and have been feeling really good about that. That in itself is a big deal for me. I have a tendency to have a hard time stopping once I start :( . I've decided to look at it like this, though. This is a band that we love, which means we'll dance all night long, which is excellent exercise. I will go and have my water with lemon and just enjoy watching everyone else getting drunk and acting stupid. If I can do this (which I CAN), I have no doubt that I can do anything, and my goals are just around the corner. :)

I don't have a computer at home... I SOOO wish I did so I could document what I'm eating on the weekends, too. I'll have to write it down and enter it on Monday. Anyway, I'm not going to fall off the healthy-eating wagon just because it's the weekend. I'm going to look at it as having extra time to try new, healthy dishes I might not have time to bother with during the week.

Right now I'm drinking tea and I'll have an apple in about 20 minutes. My stomach is starting to rumble. I'm getting crampy, too, which SUX because that means I'll just be getting bloated and ugly feeling in a couple days. *blech* I hate TOM. :p

I am so, so, so proud of myself! :) I was really nervous about this weekend. It was my first weekend following my plan, and I really didn't know how I would do. Well, I did PERFECT. :D Went out with DH Friday night to a dance hall, and while everyone else was drinking beer and taking jello shots, I drank my water with lemon. I got pretty tired of everyone asking me why I wasn't drinking. One time would have been okay, I could have understood that. But all night? Well, I cut the night short because it was getting on my nerves. Home by 11:00 on a Friday night. Woke up Saturday morning fresh as lettuce, no hangover... I honestly think I can do this long term. If only I can get DH to follow my lead.

As far as eating, I did great there, too. Good breakfast Saturday morning- Fiber One with banana and skim milk. For lunch I did the Gardenburger patty w/marinara, mushrooms & onions. Raw almonds for a snack. Then for dinner I made ww pasta with shrimp and had my spinach grapefruit salad. YUM. I even did the elliptical for 25 minutes Saturday morning. Go, Me!! :p

DH played music Saturday night, kiddo was with the girlfriend, and I stayed home and watched Borat. Lauged my ass off, too. That had to burn some calories.

Sunday I woke up and had my Fiber One again. Felt so good I decided to take the kiddo and his gf to play miniature golf- last day of Spring Break for them. That was a lot of fun, then we drove to the beach and we went to eat lunch. One of my favorite places, up on stilts overlooking the ocean. I used to LOVE to go there and drink beer and eat a cheeseburger or nachos. Well, they got cheeseburgers and I got a house salad with lemon. And tea. :) I considered eating the black olives a splurge. How crazy is that?! Dinner was leftover pasta and shrimp.

I really am amazed by all this. I don't feel deprived and I've lost another 2 pounds. I wish I could make everyone I know just try this... try this healthy lifestyle and see how good they could feel. Hopefully DH will catch on soon. He needs a change desperately.

I drank my green tea and chugged some grapefruit juice with psyllium. That stuff really helps keep me full between meals. .

What is psyllium? I probably sound like a total 'tard, not knowing. But I'm not very up-to-date when it comes to diet aids and things as I had a bit of a problem with them as a teenager. Can you tell me more about it?

Congrats on keeping up with your routine, many times that first week is the hardest to get through. It's when a lot of people drop out. But you made it, so now you can tell yourself how capable you are and then keep it up!

Also, well done on the alcohol thing! I know from personal experience how hard that can be. I'm the same way. Once I pop, I can't stop! haha I don't know if you've ever done this before, but the thing that has really helped me to cut down TONS on alcohol is to look at how many calories are in ONE shot, or in one glass of wine. Then every time I look at alcohol, all I see is empty calories! LOL

Well, it's good to meet you. Welcome aboard, we're all cheering you on!

Thanks for the encouragement, monikuddle. Psyllium is basically fiber. I find it really helps keep me full between meals and from what I've read, most people, especially women, don't come close to their RDA of fiber each day. The psyllium helps make sure you get what you need. You can buy it in powder form, which is what I have, or capsules. The best way to do the powder is in a smoothie, but I rarely have time to make those, so I just chug it.

Hope this helps. :)

Wow, you're doing awesome. I'm proud of you for not drinking at the dance. This new year I told myself I wasn't going to drink for a year to spare myself the extra calories, and I don't care what anyone thinks. I always remember this really cool woman I saw in a fancy restaurant and she was just drinking water. I thought, "she's so cool" but why is she only having water? (I was a waitress). I later found out that she had had heart surgery. Even more cool, she was taking good care of herself.

Keep up the good work! Lately I haven't felt like doing the fitday thing myself and its good to know I can still lose without it, although it is reassuring to "know" you're in a deficit for the day.

Congrats! You did great!

As an aside, the reason your friends kept asking you why you weren't drinking was because they drank so much that they forgot they already asked you that! :D
