Apparently I'm just too fat.

Apparently I'm just too fat to ride a bike. We've had a few problems with flat tires now, and my mom says she thinks I'm just too heavy at 250 to be riding a bike. Kind of embarassing.

I'm puzzled though. Why now? I rode my bike everyday last year, and I was about the same weight.

Kind of a bummer.

you arent too fat to ride a bike - I'd check to make sure the tires don't have a slow leakin them tthat's causing them to go flat...

you're working on getting your weight down and you'll get there.. hang in there..

n the mean time - do some walking

Ummm, 250 lbs is not enough to pop a tire. If it were, the tires on our motor vehicles would be in some trouble.

Get a new tire.

well see.
This is a completely different bike which is why I'm so not happy about it. But I'll give it another shot before I give into it.

Well, I was just about the same weight as you are when I started riding my bike and I didn't have any problems with flat tires from that (I had some flat tires but not from too much weight).

I used to get flat tyres ALL the time, so annoying! Now I've got this green strip thing that goes over the inner tube to protect it from puncturing and its made a world of difference. Could be worth a try?

Chances are if you haven't ridden your bike in a long time or haven't changed the rubber innertube in a while then there is probably a leak in the innertube from rubber rot. Any place that sells bikes can sell you replacement inner tubes and they'll take about an hour to change if you've never done it before. A few dollars a piece.

I'm 258 and I was riding around on a bike just last night (for the first time in months). Just check your tire pressure and remember that the wheels can look really flat when you look down at them from above. New tubes are the way to go, get some anti-puncture ones for peace of mind. Have fun riding!

:D ah,thanks everyone.
It is indeed the tube. I tried to pump it up last night and it went flat again right away. For the time being I'm broke so I'm walking to school which has tacked on an extra 40 minutes to my daily exercise :) Consequently(sp?) it literally burns twice as many calories.
