Anything wrong with pasta?

Hi,

It seems like there is conception that pasta (more to the point - carbs) are bad for weight loss. Assuming you eat the right number of calories, is it okay to eat pasta 2 or 3 times a week? The pasta I cook seems to be healthy and is made from:

- 100% whole wheat pasta
- no oils/butter
- vegetarian (peppers, tomatoes, olives, mushrooms - lots of veggies)
- no cream sauces (just basic tomatoe sauce - think ragu)

It's a quick and easy to cook and has a lot of vegies - so, is this okay 2-3 times a week?

My philosophy is everything's fine in moderation.

However, I read about a recent study that certain body types lose more fat on low carb diets, while for others it does not make a difference about the content of the calories consumed. The apple shaped people apparently lose weight quicker on low carb diets, while pear shaped bodies just need to cut calories but dont need to focus on low carb foods.

For some people, carbs stimulate the appetite and low carb foods kill the appetite.

Regardless, you will lose weight if you're eating less calories than what your body is burning. But you may be able to speed up the process by eating low carb if you're an apple, according to a few things I've read. But who knows for sure???!!

Haha, Thats really funny sounding...lol

Pasts is fine, its a good source of complex carbs and fiber. The tomato based sauce has obvious health benefits. Its cheap and easy to make. Think of adding some chopped up boiled chicken breast in it. Taste good and adds a solid source of complete protein and will help with hunger.

I assume you mean body type there. I'm definitely an apple but I've never been a carb counter. I figure calories are the important thing to count. Have I been counting the wrong thing for my body type?

I agree with Blancita:
I have lost in excess of seventy pounds and have never restricted any food :)
If you're looking for a really good, organic, whole-wheat pasta, I recommend Bionaturae. It's the best pasta out there, it cooks great; keeps it's form (doesn't go all fuzzy or starchy) and is available at good markets.
Enjoy!
