Anyone watching Biggest Loser?

i love the show!
i just started to watch but have been trying to catch up on the last few seasons. why would it not be popular here?

Last season was the first season I watched and I started watching this new one as well. I enjoy watching it. :)

why would it not be popular here?

Well I guess the reason is the unrealistic weight the contestants are losing and how they're going about it. For most people, life gets in the way so devoting 6-8 hours in a gym a day is out of the question. People may watch the show and think they're a failure when they only lost 2 pounds in a week. Meanwhile the contestants are "pulling" (I hate when they use that word!) big numbers.

I think what might be interesting here is where are these folks five years from today. Did they keep it off? Was it a TV show or a lifestyle change. Is it a sprint or a life long journey?

You got it right ozbuc the real success is long term, when it comes to a healthy lifestyle slow and steady wins the race. I think the show is great motivation for people who are over weight to get serious about losing that weight.

I never watched it before but since all "my" shows are on winter break it seems, I started watching it and now I am hooked. I also watched an accelerated version of the last season (by watching episodes 1, 5, 10 and the finale sort of thing).

I don't care that what they do is unrealistic, I mean maybe because I am thin in comparison or maybe because I see it for what it is: a TV show, a game. The fact that they eat 1200 cals and work our 8 hours a day is a game, of course nobody can do it at home. And unless they change their lifetsyles big time non of them will maintain the loss. But it is still very entertaining! And "So you think you can dance" isn't on until the summer again so I was having a reality TV itch.

What bothers me about the program is that they rarely show how they teach them about nutrition and show them contantly crying on the floor of the gym. I mean nutrition is one of the pillars of weight loss and in the long run knowing about nutrition is more important than knowing how to step on a treadmill.
I also don't understand why they don't have therapy in there. While they are at it they could splurge for a psychologist to talk to them a couple of times a week couldn't they, instead of having Jillian, who has no training in psychology, scream at them and belittle them to get their emotions out and to get behind the weight problem. Morbidly obese people, especially those they take (most of them with a story behind it, death of parents or siblings or even spouse and children, abuse, etc...), don't just decide to eat 12,000 cals a day, they are eating as an addiction or as a soother.

But apart from that, I like the show, I find the challenges fun, I like the fact that their transformations are so visible, so obvious. And I even like Bob and Jillian, I find them endearing. So if someone wants to discuss the episodes here I would be happy to discuss along.

last season, i cried during every.single. episode. I think LAST season had a lot of heartbreak and courage.

this group, this season, seems like a buncha babies. I cannot stand this season.

I like biggest loser! I am finding that it is helping me to stay motivated, simply because if they can all do it then so can I! :)

I am too Tamago! And since she is bisexual I am sure she would like the both of us ;)!

I love the Biggest Loser but I do say a lot of negative things about it simply because I love to pick on the contestants. I never have a favorite but I always have contestants I hate (the red and green teams this season).

I do find this season to not be as good as seasons in the past. There's something "off" this year.

idk ladies, i think Jillian has givin into the industry.
on the show she is anti pills, anti anything that isnt natural

yet shes selling a "suppliment" to "kick off" your weight loss.
we sell it at my work.
you ever read whats in that?
its a diet pill. plain and simple.

and ever since i found that out, i no longer like her.

I love biggest loser. I find it really inspiring and entertaining. I know I can't expect to lose the huge amounts of weight they lose each week so I like to view each of their weeks as one of my months, that way I have something a bit more realistic to compare it to...

That is a good way to look at it. I had not thought of it that way.

I have a love hate relationship. I love the drama. Ok....I admit....I LOVE drama....as long as it's not focused on me, ha! I love watching how happy the contestants are at the end and seeing their whole body transformation.

I hate that they don't show much in terms of nutrition. Yeah, we see that they work out 6,7,8 hours a day at the gym, but what do they eat. Haaate the cheesy product placement (ie, Jillians ziploc bag advertisement, lol).

I watched last night and will no longer buy Yoplait smoothies. I like them but having the product placement turned me off from them. I know it will cause some to run out and buy them, but no me. I won't buy Cheerios or eat at Subway anymore either. Of course, Subway is having issues in my mind. TMZ catches Jared in an airport and he's huge but in their commercials he's thin via movie magic. That's not cool and it's false advertising. Stop using Jared and his altered image and maybe I'll consider a meal or two at Subway.

yeah, looks pretty fat to me too.....Amazing how movie magic works when standing next to people in real life too.

Yeah, he does look fat. It's sad that they still use him to pitch their sandwiches when he's gained about 40 pounds since he first started with the chain. Of course, standing next to Tony Stewart I guess he does look thin. Of course, so does a hippo.
