Anyone ever have a torn ACL?

how long did recovery take after surgery?
can u get back to doing full activity? (wrestling, skating, martial art , etc)

Yea. It really is not that bad. I had surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus about 15 years ago.

I was doing a regular lifting routine after about 5 months. Was full go at about 8 months.

Full go is all competitive sports (for me). Football, wrestling, weightlifting.

Operating was the best thing that could have ever happened. I have never had a problem since. No pain, nothing. Just like normal.

From what I hear recovery can be much faster these days.

yeh i had it too, not bad? are you kidding

Takes about 9months, depends a lot on your progess and goals. Having torn it if you decide to continue sports such as soccer football your at an increased succeptability for reinjury, thats not to say it will defentiely give way again just that it you may be prone to it, but considering your older and not a teenager thats something to be happy about.

If you got any questions sure we can help you out

Just watch out for that osteoathritis. ACL ruptures are commonly linked with the development of this disorder later in life.

My wife's little sister tore hers. I can't remember how long it took to recover, but she eventually returned to high jumping at the collegiate level

Tore mine in 83, just before the arthroscopic stuff was being perfected. My ortho offered major surgery (9" scar) or get by without it, which I chose to do. I cycle extensively and rarely think about it except when I ski, which frightens me. And, as for osteoarthritis, yeah, there is an increased risk of that, but it seems most older folks develop problems anyways.

Don't be such a sissy dude. :bncry:

I dont know about you but i prefer to be out playing, having fun, going out, all those things instead of being limited for a year...Not to mention the consequences of knee problems later in life as well as the increased risk of reinjury and money...but nah its all cool

my friend tore his ACL two years ago and was on a waiting list for operation for almost a 8 months...after he got it he still had a bit of a limp and his leg is still pretty messed up and the doc told him he will most likely get arthritis...and just to mention, the doctor who did the surgery for him was the same doctor who treats the Toronto Raptors NBA team...(think about it)

I was just going to mention the one that did hers was the Cincinnati Reds team doc. I guess that's no guarantee though

yeah that's pretty interesting...i guess what matters most is how bad the tear is and how well your immune system and recovery rates are

Not really, the only way to repair an acl is surguery, then it depends on how well your graft strengthens and how well your rehab is..

obviously that's what i am talking about buddy...you need your immune system and rehab after surgery to heal...why would anyone stay away from surgery?

Well old people for example or people who dont do much activity.

I don't understand what that means but w/e.
