Hi, I too am 6'1", and currently at 206. I started on May 16, at 246. I'm trying to break the 200 barrier, maybe down to 195. I'm 49 y.o. and feel better than I have in years, plus my blood pressure is down to 117/76. I'm following the Paleo Diet, but not to the extreme. I also have started walking alot, a whole lot. Good luck, and let me know if you need anything. Gene

Hey glad to hear back from ya, as far as how long it took for me id say about 2 months. For diet im not doing anything special other than juicing every morning, read up on the benefits of juicing it is amazing, we use apples, kale (superfood), blueberrys, raspberrys, blackberrys, cauliflower and carrots, it can be expensive but is worth it. The rest of the day i just watch my portion size, you know, only 1 pbj for lunch (instead of 2 or 3 lol), at dinner i try to eat about fist size portions of the main course, then veggies or whatnot. Since i have started i have no desire to feel full or stuffed anymore, however i am very carefull to make sure im eating enough and not starving myself. The last thing i will say is drink lots of water, and i mean LOTS of water, i drink water constently at work its the best thing you can do for your metabolism. Oh and as far as excersize i just try to get 30 mins a day in, whether its running stairs at home, or jumping on the trampoline with my boy, just whatever you gotta do.

I hope to hear back from ya soon, you can do this man, getting started is the hardest part.

Hey, thanks for the kudos for losing 40! I'm down another pound today - 205. A friend of mine introduced me to the Paleo diet back on May 15th, I read up on it and started on the 16th. Within the first 3 weeks I lost over 20 pounds. Since then I've been gradually losing weight. I would plateau for a few weeks at a certain weight, then lose about 5 more, then plateau again for a few weeks, lose again... Fortunately, I haven't gained any, just lost. As for the diet, I'm basically staying away from anything processed; sugars, starches, pasta, bread, anything that is carbohydrate intensive. I try to stay around 100 g. of carbs a day. I eat lots of chicken and vegetables, not so much fruit (carbs). The actual diet says to stay away from dairy products if possible, but I eat cottage cheese with berries for lunch - filling, tasty, and not too many carbs. For breakfast it's usually a 3 egg omelette with turkey ham, spinach and lots of salsa. For dinner usually a protein and some veggies. I snack on mixed nuts during the day, however it's best not to get the kind with peanuts or cashews because according to the diet these nuts cannot be eaten in their raw state, they've got to be roasted. I'm not sure of the reasoning, but I try to follow it anyway.

The first week was difficult since my body was unaccustomed to eating this way. I felt light headed and sometimes nauseous, but it went away after a few days. Since then I've found that my appetite is not nearly as voracious as before. I feel filled up after having eaten only a portion of what I was accustomed to eating. I don't feel hungry all the time and it's possible to go long periods without eating. The diet actually recommends periodic fasting, but I'm not that extreme. I pretty much eat whatever, whenever I want as long as I keep my carbs around 100 g. per day. My wife and I recently started having cheat days on Sunday, but surprisingly enough, I really have no desire to eat anything beyond my current food choices. However, the other day was my son's birthday and I actually had a piece of German Chocolate cake without feeling guilty, and I still lost a pound =)

I have to admit that I do walk alot. I work as a postman and recently acquired a route that requires me to walk 6+ hours a day, but most of my weight loss was before this change. I was a bit surprised that I haven't been losing more weight since this change about a month ago, but it seems that my body has adapted to the walking and I'm not losing a very rapid rate. My walking pace is slow to moderate since I'm sorting mail as I walk, so there is no intense cardio involved.

As for weaknesses, I love my diet soft drinks and at night my wife and I will have a few dark chocolate covered almonds. Other than that I pretty much stay on the straight and narrow, which if you knew me 40 lbs. ago, is quite an achievement.

I hope that this has given you some good info, and I wish you well on your journey. Let me know if I can be of any help.. Gene

Kudos to you.. I tried juicing and could not acquire the taste of greens juice. I tried mixing it with all kinds of fruit and whatnot, but no go. I do know that juicing works, I just wish I found it a little more palatable. I wish you continued success and hope you reach your goal soon =) Gene

AI am 23 years old and 117 kg right now, but I am 5''10 (at least we got the height in common).

I started my weight loss journey 2 months ago at 130kg. I workout 5-6 times a week, I am not on any specific diet and I don't count calories, but I eat healthy drink lots of water and don't starve myself. At least once a week I let myself have a cheat day and eat whatever I want, because after we lose the weight, we have to keep it off, and I believe that if we can't learn how to eat healthy and still have some fun food every now and than, we will most likely gain the weight back.
