Any relation between resting heart rate and metabolism?

I started my weight loss journey 2 weeks ago today. At the time, my resting heart rate was ~58. I've been eating 1800-2200 calories a day and doing cardio on a recumbent bike for 60 minutes every day with my heart rate averaging ~150-160 while doing so. Also, I've been walking 7 miles every other day in addition to the cardio.

My resting heart rate now (just measured a few minutes ago) is 46. Is this a sign of improved fitness or that my metabolism has slowed a little? One other caveat that might be playing a role is that I've reduced my caffeine consumption to about 20% of what it was before the weight loss. I plan to eliminate it eventually. I've lost 9 lbs in the first 2 weeks so I think I'll have a better idea after seeing what the scale says next week to see if the weight keeps coming off at that pace.

I don't know if there's any direct correlation between the two but was looking to see if others have experienced this or could give their thoughts and/or opinions on the matter. Thanks! :)
