Any good heart rate monitors?

Howdy,

I'm looking to purchase a new heart rate monitor but I don't know the slightest thing about whats available. I have read various reviews of different ones, but I was hoping to get some insight from someone personally or maybe somone might know of something I have overloooked.

I guess what I am looking for is something that will let me set a heart rate range. This way I can program it to give me a warning whenever I go aboce the range or drop below it. I am also looking for something durable and reliable. I tend to drop things a lot.

One thing that I would love to have in a heart rate monitor is one that records my heart rate during a workout and afterwards can connect to a computer and I can keep a graph of my workouts. I however do not know if that is even possible with any of them. Well any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a Polar FS3 wristwatch monitor and a CS100 for my bike. I use a coded chest strap which gives better connection than the T31 strap that the FS3 comes with. The FS3 can do the tasks you want except it cannot download data.
 
It depends...if you want to check your calories and nothing too complicated then a Polar RS100 is a good buy, but if you are a runner for some time now and you want to incorporate specific training programs that involve speed and distance measurements i would recommend the Polar RS200sd which is excellent.
 
Yes, I highly recommend the Polar series of monitors. As said above, the FS3 would be a good choice, as it's inexpensive (compared to some of the other models, at least), and will do what you need it to do. Personally, I use the F6 model, but I like the extra features it has. One question, though, will you be exercising in a gym or out of doors?
 
It's a mixture of indoors and outdoors.

I like to rollerblade outdoors and use that as a form of cardio, but I also enjoy being on a rowing machine and to some extent other machines.

My goal is to start toning up a bit more and lowering my Body Fat percentage. So I think a heart rate monitor will help me stay in the target 60-70% max HR a lot better.

As of now I'm in the stages of getting into a new program so I'm doing a lot of research, so I thank everyone for any input.
