any advice for really good gym shoes

Ok, so I actually have found that I enjoy working out. I walk 45-50 minutes each day (usually about 2.5 miles - so not fast just steady). I also do weights three times a week and swim three days a week. When I walk, the balls of my feet hurt VERY BADLY. My heels were hurting, so I bought a new pair of New Balance walking shoes. My heels still hurt some in the evenings - but that is a bit better. However, now when I walk, the balls of my feet feel as if they are on fire. Any suggestions? Is is just because I am still too heavy for my poor feet (I am about 6 weeks out, so I still have A LOT to lose)? Are there a better kind of shoes that I should go buy? Do you think I just need inserts?
:ack2:

I've found that New Balance is really good for me and I'm hard to buy shoes for because of my flat feet. Did you go to an actual new balance store? If not I would recommend it and if you did already, try a different one (they may have better staff). I say this because the 1st time I went I got Great walking shoes (plus insoles), but the running shoes hurt sooo bad, so I took them back and now the ones I have (plus insoles) I swear by. I had to spend a pretty penny....or two lol...but I really feel it was worth it. Good luck

Hello there!

I just wanted to suggest that you see a podiatrist. I had my first ever appointment last week and the doctor discovered that I have a minor issue with my left foot (around the ball of the foot between the 2nd and 3rd toes) He told me the medical term but I forgot what it was, something Neurom___... anyway he said it had to do with an enlarged nerve that runs across the foot and he gave me some creme to apply for the next two weeks. If that doesn't work he's going to inject my foot with a drug that will take care of the problem and relieve the pain.

Perhaps you have a similar issue? Either way, it's always good to get something painful checked out by a doctor.

Good luck in taking care of your foot pain.

For me, I found 2 x inserts within each running shoe helps as well. For my 4 mile jogs (1 time per week - due to recent bad winter roads), I have a pair of insulated ankle high running shoes. re: Appear like:

With 2 x inserts in each shoes, my hiking shoes work great. Soft landing (which reducing ankle / knee pain afterwards) and still provides great ankle support. Only negative is on hot days (above freezing temps), they allow my feet to become too warm. Afterwards, I wash my feet (to remove any bacteria) and let my inner shoes air out. But for running and need for ankle support, my winter insulated / ankle high running shoes work great.
