Hey everybody.
My name's Anthony, I live in the UK and I'm 18 years young. I weigh around 13 stone (82.5kg), and around 5ft 8/5ft 9. I have been wanting to lose some fat around my belly for a while now. I decided to start one of these diaries because it's so easy to become disheartened and I'd like somewhere to pour out my thoughts. Basically, I really want to trim my sides and belly. It's really effecting me when I go out with friends etc I feel so low on confidence.
I start Uni in 1 weeks' time, so I'm hoping to make good use of the treadmill and exercise bike at the gym.
So I currently do my cardio in the way of 30-40 minutes of running (on the spot) every day. Consistant running is difficult with my asthma, although I manage through it.
I had been eating only 1 meal a day for several months, and although my family did comment on some weight loss, I didn't see it as so drastic. I had been eating "good" food most days in the week (4-5), but my big weakness was eating things like Pizza and chips (Fries)together. Now This started as a once a week thing, but gradually I ended up having a pile of chips on wednesdays as well as the pizza/chips on saturdays. "No big deal" I told myself. Anyways, holidays (vacation) came around, and I found myself eating crap (Junk Food basically) every night of the week. Between the extra walking we were doing and the fact that I was on holiday I thought it didn't matter. I guess it isn't true that what goes on when you're away doesn't stay away. It follows you home. And to college. And verywhere you go. I found myself staring at a rounded, rather large belly. "But I didn't eat much" I told myself. It didn't matter, because 1 meal a day is bad enough, without it being basically pure fat I was eating.
Not happy, I fell into a depressive slump for a few days, until one day I did some internet research, and found out that cardiovascular training would help me vastly if I wanted to burn fat. "Great, now I can lose some REAL weight". I had never had the will power to do exercise on a fitness level before. Football (Soccer) I had loved to play at school, and was quite skilled at (back when I had less mass), but never exercise for fitness.
So here I was, doing my cardio 30 minutes per day, 6 days of the week. I felt great. Fantastic even. One problem though: I was still eating 1 meal per day. Not good. I felt on top of the world after the first week, I had lost fat around my stomach, and felt a little more confident. I was raring to go for the second week. However, my body certainly wasn't. See, eating 1 meal per day had lost me some weight over the past few months, yes (Until my 2 weeks of madness when I was away on holiday). Adding the cardio to my lifestyle obviously burned me more calories, but it meant my body wanted to store more fat. Not good at all.
Depressed and shattered by saturday (just gone), I thought to myself: "What does it take, to keep off that weight?!?"
This site has helped me a lot, because I learned that 1 meal just does not cut it. My advice to anybody out there: Just don't do it. No matter how appealing you find it, please don't do it. I found out the hard way.
As a result today is my first day of eating properly in about 4 months. I had Yoghurt on Weetabix for breakfast, and a Red Pepper and Tomato granary sandwich with soup for lunch. I plan on having Rice and salad for dinner.
I know I've done the right thing in starting to eat properly, but why does it feel so bad?
My mum always told me: "When there's a will, there's a way". She was right. If you have the will power to do something, you truly can do it. Just remember to keep at it.
Anyway, thanks for reading, thoughts and comments appreciated =)
