Anti-Depressants and Dieting...Is it impossible?

Hello all. i'm new to the forum but wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone else is going through this.

I'm on and have been on Paxil for almost 2 years now. I understood that I could experience weight gain and did. Approx. 40 lbs. Now this was added on to an already much overweight frame so I hardly noticed until I broke out shorts for the summer and they didn't fit anymore. It was then that I decided to do something about it.

The only problem is so far is that apparantly anti deppressants like Paxil affect your metabolism and slows it to a snails pace thus resulting in weight gain in most patients regardless of lifestyle.

To hopefully negate these effects, I'm taking Vitamins B6, B12, Omega 3, Chromium Picolinate and a Multi.

I just started a littel over a week ago and with a 1200 calorie diet and a little exercise I'm already down 11 lbs. I'm just afraid that the Paxil might further inhibit any further results.

Comments, questions, anything?

Thanks.

I used to be on anti-depressants for migraines. I believe I was taking an SSRI, and I actually lost weight. I have heard about the weight gain though. But I do believe that while the medication may inhibit some the weight loss, exrecising and eating right could never hurt. Even if you don't lose tons of weight, you will likely still be getting healthier anyways. So there are always positive effects of eating right and exercising. That way when or if you stop the medication, you won't have to start from scratch. :).
