Another question about metabolism

I'm NOT trying to beat a dead horse. Just looking for answers.
Okay, so we've gotten to the point where we pretty much agree that daily metabolism and calorie burning will not be significantly increased from exercise.
WHAT ABOUT: if you're living a sedentary lifestyle (have an office job and don't really exercise) and haven't exercised for some time?
Will exercise allow you to burn more calories during your non-workout period, by increasing your metabolism?
 
yes, if you went anerobic , that means your HR is really high during the workout you actually do. However, not sure on the exact amount of calories, but it should be at least a few extra cals which all count up.
It will make you hungry however, check out
 
in short, yes... the benefits of exercise extend past the actual exercise period.

If you want to burn more calories while sitting at your desk, hands down the best thing for you is doing a combination of weight training/ cardio (semi-intense)....

As the article states, the RMR (resting metabolic rate) will be increased by the weight training, because more muscle burns more calories, simple. Adding in the cardio will allow you to burn more calories in the 24 or so hours after your cardio. Both will be beneficial to burning calories in the long run.

As the name suggests, it's an overview of the metabolic rate and which factors will affect it and which will not. It even explains EPOC - Excess Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption - and how much effect it has. Unfortunately, part of the TLDR part of the article highlights that the people with the least aerobic fitness - and probably the ones most in need of extra calorie burn - are least able to perform at the level needed to get the benefit of EPOC. And the athletes who can do this, generally don't need it.

He also points out that there are studies that show that weight training is more effective in increasing the extra calories burned than cardio. And... well, it's complicated, so I recommend you read the article ;)
