Another Novice Weight Loss Problem

Hi! I'm 190lbs. and nearly 5'7'' in height. I am eager in losing weight, but I think just the eagerness itself won't help without enough knowledge. Please help me. I'm clueless of what should I do. But I already did something, i started last Thursday but I do not have any diet plan or what. You see, I'm a college student. I go to school 6 days in a week and go to gym about 3 days of those in an alternate pattern. I do the treadmill(i don't even know how much speed is needed in my case) as my stationary, for about 30 minutes. After that, I do sit-ups for about 15 reps (5 sets) then back to treadmill. Look, I just made it up and I don't know if it's correct or not. I don't know what to eat, so I just lessen the rice to 1 cup. I also don't know anything about muscle parts (or what do you call them) where "damage" (that's what they say) is inflicted during exercise. I have only a limited allowance (about $4.23 per day, about $1.14 is already spent for my transportation needs and $1.94 for the gym payment). I just wanted to lose weight because I wanted to wear nice shirts and pants but they don't seem to fit with me so I think I'm the one who's gonna adjust though (Duh!). My gym schedule is Tues, Thurs, Sat (Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sun are for studies.)

My Problems are the following:
  • I don't know what are the things that I must do more inside the gym.
  • Is 3 times a week enough for me when going to the gym?
  • What should I eat? I'm clueless! Is it okay if I skip meals?
  • How often should i eat meat, veggies, yogurt, and others
  • Should i really work on the abs first (because of the waistline) before anything else?
  • How many hours of sleep?
  • What to eat when the day comes when i'm not scheduled to go to gym?
  • Is there any critical time at night wherein i must be found sleeping already in order to lose weight?
  • Are diet supplements effective in burning fat? how? in what way?
  • Is 3 days per week just fine for gym sessions?
  • I just wanted to have a 31-inch waistline (because currently, it's 40).

-PLEASE HELP ME. I just wanted to make a "physical" turnaround in my life.

I will give it a shot to help you out. For the first month to get your body use to being put through the mill I would do a full body workout each day that you go to the gym. Supersets are nice because they will allow you to work multiple parts of the body at one time while resting the other. Superset = doing one workout like a set on bench press then a set of leg extensions.
The following link covers the basics, scroll to the bottom of the page you will find sample workouts as well as demos of how to properly do the workouts. Pay very close attention to the form these guys are using to both maximize your results and so you don't hurt yourself. I would say to increase your heart rate keep rest periods no more than 60 sec. between sets and do your cardio after your weight lifting.

As far as your diet I still need help on that myself but as a guide line I try to take in 1 g of protein and 2 g of carb per lb. of body weight. But I am trying to gain muscle so that may not be for you. But college food, equals to be chicken, tuna fish ( I replaced my mayo with fat free cottage cheese, believe it or not it's good) and greens. Try not to skip meals, this will slow your metabolism, not what you want. To naturally speed it up try to eat 5-6 time throughout the day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. Breakfast bowl of oatmeal, snack apple, lunch sandwich, snack banana, dinner what you would normally eat. Allowing your body to digest small amounts throughout the day will help. There are some threads on here that cover diet very well, my advice is to check them out.
Sleep with going to school and working out try to get as close to 8 hours as possible to maximize your results and not leaving you feel like a zombie.
