I've been lurking here for about two weeks. I guess that's how long I've officially been making life style changes. Trying to do research on fitness and weight loss subject is frustrating in the fact I don't know who actually wants to help, and who's trying to sell me a miracle. So I'm going to do it my way. If something works I'll keep doing it, if it doesn't or doesn't make sense in my mind I won't do it.

This whole chapter in my just kind of happened. Kind of like it just happenned that I got to weigh 338 lbs @ 6 ft 1 in. I've never been a real light person. When I graduated HS I weighed 240 lbs but had 14% BF. I was a three sport letterman, needless to say I hit the weights a lot. I'm no stranger to working out. What I am a stranger to is vegatables, but we've got to know each other lately.

Obviously I started this process when I realized something had to be done. So I started with some small changes that have morfed into getting up @ 5am to get some cardio and weights in 3 out of 4 days. First Change: Cut back on drinking Mt Dew. Before Jan 5th I probably had a 44oz of Mt Dew everyday. I always knew how many calories that was, but for some reason I didn't care. Then we got a new bedroom set that included 3 mirrors. I looked at my self and and went "WTF have I done to myself?". I also turn 30 at the end of this month. My father is having severe knee problems and is diabetic from being obese. My knees hurt just doing chores and chasing my small children. I used to enjoy working out. And finally I bet my brother; who is the same size as me; that who ever loses the fewest lbs in 2009 has to pay for the both of us to go to the next Big 12 Football Championship!

I understand this is a process. My short term goal is to get down to 240 lbs, and re-evauluate from there. However, my major goal is to develop a more healthy life style.

In the past two weeks I have dropped 7 lbs. (that was 5 days ago) My knees feel a lot better. I had to move down a belt loop, and even at that is getting loose. I pay better attention at work, and I just have more energy.

I do have some questions. I'll ask them here, but I'll probably lurk in the nutrition form for some answers too.

Fruit Juice: Is fruit juice an acceptable alternative to a serving of fruit? Seems like there is a lot of sugar. Especially Grape Juice. It does help keep my pop (soda for you people not in the great plains) cravings in check.

Getting Enough Protien: I have a hard time getting enough protien in my diet w/o adding major calories. I need some tips on this. I bought a box of Pure Protien bars, mostly because there were only 2g of sugar for 40g of protien at 190 calories. Is this a good alternative?

I need to get out of here. I'm still getting up at 5.

good job on losing those first few pounds
they always feel good
to be honest im not sure on how you can get enough protein in your diet without the calories coming along with it
calories come with everything i guess lol
