Well, what can I say? I’m 48 and I managed to gain way too much weight for my 5’10” frame. I hate my looks now and from some of the comments my wife has made I know she doesn’t like it either. :cuss:

I guess how I got here is less important than what I’m going to do about it. My plan is to better monitor the types and amount of foods I eat. I have also decided to limit diet colas to no more than 16 oz a day for now then eliminate them in the future. The other plan of action is to exercise at the local gym which will start out mainly with weight training and then work my way into some cardiovascular. (my knees can’t even handle the elliptical machine)

I have read some of the success stories on here…very inspirational!

Welcome Mike! I'm new too. Have you always had problems with your knees or do you think it is the weight? My knees give me some issues, but mainly, because I love to walk, it's heel spurs! I took a year off walking because of it, and of course gained like crazy. This time around no symptoms yet, and I'm hoping by losing this weight I can keep from hurting myself again.

It sounds like you are ready to begin! Keep in touch and let us cheer you on!

Hi Colleen,
My knees started giving me problems when I passed the 240 lb mark which caused me to stop running. I also tore a rotator cuff which caused me to stop lifting weights so I guess I resorted to lifting cheese burgers instead…ha ha. Anyhow, at the end of February, I finally got a bone spur removed from my shoulder and my rotator cuff repaired. (so I don’t have a chip on my shoulder anymore) The shoulder is doing good…some pain but still very weak. It’ll probably take some time to get my strength back but I have to start somewhere.

If you're wanting to track your calories, I recommend . It will give you all kinds of information about what you're eating.

As far as exercise, start slow. Can't run? Walk. Then walk faster. Build upward from there.
