Another newbie (at least for posting) - have a long journey ahead

Hi everyone!

I'm effectively a newbie although I've been lurking for a while off and on. I'm a 40 year old male with a LARGE amount of weight to lose. I'm currently at my highest weight of 472 pounds and ready for a change. In the first part of 2012 I lost 62 pounds from my previous high of 461 pounds. Unfortunately towards the end of 2012 things got crazy with family, work, and holidays and I gained it all back plus a few more over the last 6 months.

I plan to start posting here including with a diary in the hopes this will be one additional thing to help keep me on track.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. It always helps to have people with like minds to talk to, it's like being in a world all our own.

Welcome to the forum.

I have done that too many years over the twenty something years of being a very big lady... I am after all only 5ft3...

It is so disheartening every time that it happens that I wrongly got into the mindset that it was impossible for me.

I WAS WRONG!!!

The main problems were that I was not sticking at it for long enough and I was not forgiving of myself when I had a bad day... I too often allowed one bad day to signal the end of the diet... I also needed education and thought that I would have to try to live off a ridiculously low level of calories...

I had a tough time last year (and the year before) too and I have gained weight too... Sometimes when things get tough - the tough start comfort eating....... I had got to goal with the forum a few years back but went away - but knew that I had to come back when I realised that my weight had become officially "obese" again... So I started the 2013 project...

We are in a similar position you and I - except that I had got to goal and then gained 35% of my weight whereas you got to 399 and would have shot up to 538 if you had gained 35%... LOL I've probably made your 73 pound gain feel not so bad...

For many of us - we will have to stay mindful about our weight for the rest of our lives - because we will gain weight the minute that we stop doing that...

We just have to tell ourselves that we have done it before and can do it again...

I suggest that you read the following thread as it may help you settle in and build a support network.

Good luck.

Thanks Omega! I'll check out that link.

You described my situation perfectly. I always have a hard time getting started and any slip (even one meal) usually means going off the diet until the following week or month. I even did that this time...I planned to start on Friday but didn't really start until yesterday. I'm not sure why I thought starting on a Friday before Easter would be a good idea...I should have realized that wouldn't work too well :)

Thanks again!
