Another "Hi I'm new!" thread...

Wanna be loser

New member
Hi I'm new!

I'm a male, 27, 6'2" and about 240 lbs.

I'm a fatty. There, I said it... I know I need to lose weight. Since I moved out of my parent's house, I stopped going to the gym (I was about 195 then) I guess I've gained 40-50 lbs, and haven't gotten any taller! LOL

So here I am. Starbucks in one hand, and some other bad food in the other. At your mercy.

Once I save my pennies I'll be joining a gym again, and for now...Well I guess I'll start eating healthy...

So yeah, that's it!

Hello and welcome. Do you have goals set for yourself? That is a good place to start put it on paper and hold yourself to it. I understand about saving for the gym membership I cannot afford one right now. But I do other things that work just as well. I enjoy walking/running and hiking. Is there something you can do where you live to get you moving now? And start eating healthy now don't wait. You may want to look at the recipe thread it may help you in getting ideas how to start the process of eating right. This is something you can do. Just trust yourself. Good luck Tina

Awesome! Thanks for the ideas! I will check out the other threads, and look around home to see what kind of challenges I can do.

I keep telling myself that I'll go for a walk, now I have to do it!

If you're at all like me, you may have to argue with yourself the whole way through. Most days I don't want to exercise....but I'll just put my shoes on. Once my shoes are on...well, I'll work out for a few minutes. Then I tell myself I only have to go for 10 minutes. Once I get there I decide I can do 20 .....and so on.

So, you don't really have to go for a walk. Just put your shoes on and go outside. See how it goes from there.

Great way of putting it! I'm going to try that tonight. I have to go to the bank anyway, so maybe I'll put the harness on my dog and take her with me.

I'm the same way about convincing myself to workout. A few things have helped me:

Sign up for classes (cycling, aerobics, yoga, whatever). Ones that you have to pay for. Then you feel even worse when you don't go. And tell everyone you know that you are going to the classes. Then you fell like a dolt when you don't go. Yep, motivation via embarrassment. Works for me. :p

I told myself I would walk to work everyday (just over a mile away). I was ok about doing it - walked maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Then my car broke down. I haven't fixed it yet. Now I HAVE to walk to work. I guess this doesn't apply to many other people...but the point is, try to make it so you HAVE to do something. Or at least convince yourself that you do (high gas prices should make walking a near necessity!)

And just like Judyb said. Put the shoes on. Go outside. See where it takes you.
